My puppy had distemper and was on doxycycline from ages 9-15 weeks. Her teeth look HORRIBLE. It looks as though someone took a power sander and sanded down the fronts of her front teeth and all the anamel is rotting away. She's only 5 months old but her teeth look worse than my 12 year olds.

Is there any sort of dog dentistry or things I can do at home to help save her teeth? Can the vets put on enamel or things to protect her teeth?

I think these are her adult teeth we're talking about

Yep. There are actually vets that specialize in dentistry and restoring enamel to dog's teeth. Talk to your vet and see if you can find a specialist in your area. Unfortunately, however, it will probably cost you quite a bit of money!

Here is a link that might help you find someone, or more information:

Doxy wouldn't do that to her teeth- the worst that tetracycline antibiotics would do is turn her teeth yellow, and those should have been the baby teeth that would have fallen out by now.
Have the vet check her teeth- wear marks are formed either by other teeth rubbing on them, or something else rubbing on them- like rough bones or sometimes bar cages if your dog is caged a lot and chews on the bars.
You cannot do anything to save her teeth at home. If her teeth are that bad ask your vet before the teeth break and get infected. If they wear down to the nerve she will be in a lot of pain. You cannot put an artificial enamel over them. Once the adult teeth are damaged beyond repair, they are pulled, and then your dog will be permanently missing teeth. Ask your vet.
FYI- most dogs have their full set of permanent teeth by 6 months.

I just adopted a Chihuahua in August. He has the worst breath, I believe to be because of his teeth!! I am going to take him to the vet. to get his teeth cleaned and to see if anything can be done for any tooth that is damaged! I know they sedate them or maybe put them to sleep, so they can clean them! I am sure if your dog has teeth that need to be repaired, they can do this for you! Good Luck, I hope your pups teeth are o.k.!

Well there are dentist that do work on dogs teeth, I suppose could put crowns on your dogs teeth but it would be really expensive and would hurt.

Hate to break it to Doubledown but dishonest conformation exhibitors have been putting braces on dogs teeth for decades. However you won't see the dog out and about with them or hear much about it because it is an automatic disqualification in the ring.

It's expensive... but dogs can get teeth cleaning and repairing.

I'm guessing just the cleaning would be about $100.

I don't think the dog cares about how her teeth look, so may as well just stick to getting em cleaned for health purposes.

... although.... the first puppy ever with braces would be cool

She's going to lose those teeth anyway, so I wouldn't worry about any expensive dental work for the puppy. Of course you don't want her to be in any pain, and if she isn't, maybe you could just feed her soft food until she gets her adult teeth.

I'm not sure about if you can fix it...but my dog lost a TON of teeth when she was like 1 year old or around there. We found them all over the house...but they didn't fall out until her teeth were already in. So maybe you'll get lucky...sorry I couldn't help.

i'm unlikely to remark on the acquisition of the domestic dog and the reliability of the breeder that it became from, yet regrettably because you probably did not sign a purchase contract you may not sue for the charges, base line no exceptions. If she stated that the tails have been docked and that they have got been docked, then that is that. returned there is not any signed contract so which you won't be able to sue. i don't be responsive to why the issue you would be maximum disenchanted approximately is the tail; that is aesthetic and does not impression the well-being of the domestic dog. i may be greater apprehensive approximately rising behavioural themes that your dogs will probable strengthen from not being with that is clutter for long sufficient. From what you have suggested with regard to the breeder, you're able to return your domestic dog for a reimbursement yet I incredibly doubt it. basically love your domestic dog for who he's and prepare others on the downsides of paying for for from a BYBer.

clarification:The doxy doesn't just hurt the puppy teeth, it damages the developing permanent teeth.
I doubt there's anything available to do something yourself. And it would be very expensive and take some extensive work to have it done professsionally. Please ask your vet or a dental vet if doing so would be of real benefit to your dog, or just cosmetically pleasing for you.
Good Luck!!!

Antibiotics can also cause permanent discoloration to the teeth of humans.

I don't think the teeth are rotting, but probably discolored.

But you should definitely go to a veterinary dentist and see what they can do for your puppy.
