So, why do puppies bite so much? More and more my puppy wants to bite my feet, face, ect. Whenever, he does this I give him a chew stick. He's been chewing it near an hour. Why does he need to chew so much? Also, is it okay for me to give it to him to occupy his time while he sits by him and I am on the net or reading?

I looked at some kong toys today but, they seemed too big for him and possibly too diffcult to chew.

it's normal for a puppy to chew. mine loves to chew on anything! get some soft chew toys for him, and play with him for a little while and then let him play on his own. And yes it's ok for you to give it to him while you're busy, you're not going to be with him 24-7 so he needs to learn to entertain himself. Mine loves a rope that's cloth. And he has other stuffed animals that have squeeky inside them. Try and get him a lot of toys and just be strong and say "no" when he bites you, or bites anything else that you don't want him to bite. But don't overract because then he'll think it's a game and continue to do it more. But yes it's normal for him to chew and bite on things. But just play with him a lot, and get him lots of toys.

They bite so much because they are teething. It will stop, although it feels like it will never end. Giving him a chew toy to occupy his time while you are doing other things is a good thing to do. You may also want to pick up a "Kong" and stuff it with peanut butter, put it in the freezer for a while and give it to him. It will keep him busy for quite a while.

Edit......they lick the penutbutter out of the inside and if they are big enough they chew it.

If your pup is between 3 & 4 months old the baby teeth are coming out and the adult teeth are coming in. Just like a human baby, they need to bite to make them come in. There is nothing wrong with the pup having a chew toy to occupy it's time. I will warn that if the chew toy is rawhide, it will not digest and may impact the intestine which will make the pup not be able to "go". This can only be removed with an operation. You can let the pup have one of those ropes with knots on either end that are fringed. That will floss his teeth and give him something to get his teeth into also. Plus tug-of-war is a great game that the both of you can have fun with.

Don't feed him hooves. Dogs love them! But the hooves also give them manure breath! I learned that the hard way. Nothing worse that puppy kisses that smell like cow poo!

As the others said, he's a pup, that's what they do. Not only are they teething, but that's how they learn about their environment, kinda like babies do. My little chi is 7 months now, she's lost all her baby teeth, and is beginning to slow down on her need to put everything in her mouth.

You are handling it very well, by giving him the chew stick, you're showing him what he CAN chew on. I prefer nylabones, as they last longer and they don't swallow them. But keep up the good work! Just watch as that chew stick gets smaller, you'll have to eventually take it away so he won't choke on it when it get's too small.

One training tip is to yelp like you'd stepped on his tail if he bites/chews you. This should startle him into stopping, and tell him that what he's doing HURTS! Do it even if it doesnt hurt as well. He doesnt want to hurt you, he's just playing, and should get the message if you communicate in his language!

I think all pups chew. Mine (just1 year and waaay past teething) still chews anything left within his reach. His favorites are socks, pants (our very own manufacturer of crotchless knickers!), shoes and leather/suede. He chewed a whole corner off my wallet this morning! My cards were everywhere!

Its find to give him his chews to keep him occupied, its what our dog does when he's on his own anyway, and he brings in plastic flowerpots from the garden to chew and toss around the kitchen. To be honest, if I was him, apart from sleeping, eating, barking (no!), and playing (too tiring to spend long on), what else is a dog to do with his day?

Im not sure if u get them where u live, but back here in South Africa we can buy hooves for really cheap. Get about 10 or so and scatter them all over the yard, etc. If he starts chewing on forbidden things - give him a hoof. I often fill them with tinned meat and that keeps them busy for ages.

Cool you give him a treat when he bites you.

SMART......

Tell him NO! It doesn't matter if there is something else to chew on. It is simply not acceptable for an animal to put their teeth on humans!!!

he's chewing you up because you reward him with a chewing toy! He thinks chewing is good because you reward it!
Discipline him when he chews stuff, only give him a chew toy when he is well behaving, when he's laying down etc.
Let him chew on it as long as he wants, he's teething!
