I leave the radio on for my dogs. Think of how quiet the house gets when no one is home. I'd imagine it would drive them crazy!

We have had dogs for so many years, and I don't think so. When we go out we crate the indoor dogs we know may cause problems or get into trouble and we make sure they have various chew bones in the cage with them. Sometimes maybe some soft music
Sometimes we used to leave the t v on to fool any possible crooks who may want to rob us but I doubt if that really fools anybody. We'd put the recliner with it's back to the windows also but hey, we never got robbed so maybe it did.

i always think about this but i never left anything on i figured the more quiet it was the more quite my dogs would be....i want them to be sleeping while im not home instead of running around trying to find that noise but my dogs are clueless as to what the tv is and they would be searching for the noise. some dogs and even cats love to watch tv

When i fist got my puppy i would leave the radio on while i wasn't there. For just some sort of noise, and he really liked that. When we first got him, he would sleep calmly beside us or on the floor but then if we turned off the TV or stopped talking or anything he would freak out. So it might calm them down while you're not there if you leave the radio on, i wouldn't turn it up very loudly, but enough so he can hear it.

I don't think it matters, but I'd rather be left alone in a room with the TV on than off. My poodles loves Animal Planet!

I don't think it matters to my dog. All she cares about is that she can get into my daughters bedroom and sleep on her 100 degree waterbed in a sunbeam beaming through the window.

Depending on the dog, it would be more of the sound of voices that would probably help, but if he/she really identifies with you then it isn't going to matter...it's you, your scent, your sound and movements that they want.
One Idea that I have read is to sleep with a towel or old article of clothing for a couple days and leave that for them. It will be riddled with your scent which can be comforting.

it doesn't matter. either one would do what its supposed to to help with separation anxiety.
~if radio: try talk stations or country....dogs prefer those and react better to them
~if tv...try a station that has talk shows while you are gone.
