Just out of curiousity. We found him when he was about four months old. He was a stray and he came to my dads house and stayed in his garage for about a week or so, and my dad lives in town so he gave him to us so he would have more room to run. we think he may have been mistreated because he was really skinny we could see his ribs and backbones and he was really afraid of people at first. But we finally got him to trust people and now he's happy:) and when someone new comes in the door he'll run up to them and lick there hand. He's really good with little kids to. My little cousin whose about three came over. When she came through the door he came up to her and licked her face it was so cute... lol sorry... i felt the need to tell ya'll that. But anyway hes really smart, he learns commands fast. He's also protective of us. I dont mean agressive but if he knew something was wrong he would protect us. Just to tell you some about his personality. Anyway Ill put the pics in the next post

Here are pics of white German Shepherds to compare with the pics of your dog.

I think that yours may be a mix. If a black and tan German Shepherd, mated with a white Husky, some of the puppies could be white like the Husky, and have shape of the German Shepherd. Not a lot of people own white German Shepherds because they are not recognized by the AKC.

Not the German Shepherd that came to mind first. Sorry, was thinking of the common brown & black.
Your pup MAY be part (or pure) American White Shepherd, though. *Also known as a White German Shepherd* Here's some information on that breed:

He looks purebred to me.Not that it matters.I'm sure you love him anyway, but he does look pure to me.He's a lovely - looking dog.
Oh,and skipper, people DO throw purebred puppies out. That's how I got both of my purebred GSDs and two purebred Beagles as well. Also know people who have found all kinds of purebreds ~an Afghan hound,a husky, cocker spaniels,Labs, etc. No one ever claimed them, either.Purebreds are not exempt from being abandoned or mistreated.
Here is my current shepherd, found at approximately 8 weeks.

And here is one of my Beagles, abandoned at 4 months.

Looks about as close to a purebred white shepherd as you can get. Sounds like typical shepherd personality too. Ask your vet, but I'd say he probably is. And kudos to you and your dad for rescuing him!

No, he doesn't look like a purebred GSD at all. He looks like a GSD/lab mix.
There is genetic testing to determine your dog's breed. That might be fun to see the results!
Regardless of breed (because it doesn't matter much) he looks and sounds like a great companion.

julia i dont think he's full blooded sheppard he's a little small and his colors suggest mix maybe with lab, but he is a beautiful animal i realize male are smaller than the females and i've owned several pure bread sheppards his instincts are defenately pure blooded sheppard for they are exremely protective of children and very loving. it is truly difficult to tell without knowing who his parents are so you wouldnt be able to register as such for breeding now 15 years ago i had a registered pure bread white sheppard but he was not pure either, his papers were fixed for the guy who sold them to me but my vet said his k-9 teeth suggest the jaw structure of a lab, perhaps this is the case for yours, also because pure breds are extremely expensive its not likely he be running around loose as a puppy people tend to keep an eye on their investments especially breeders, but in any case he is an absolutely beautiful animal and your lucky to have him as i am sure he's lucky to have such a lucky and loving family, enjoy your companion their not with us long.....oh and get him fixed its the best thing for their health in the long run if hes not already hes more likely to develope male problems if hes not.,,,,yep julia absolutely beautiful animal.....congrats.....skipper

He sure does have the attitude to be a GSD pure bred, are his hind legs tucked and is there a tattoo in his right ear? His nose is liver which is considered fault in pure bred are his eyes light as well?

Very beautiful, typical german shepherd head...It's really very hard to really tell, but he is beautifull for sure:)
They are some white german shepherds, but unfortunately they are not recognized by the AKC as a show coat...It is considered a breed defect.... A bunch of BS if you ask me...I hate when people are looking for purebred dog only for having to show their pedigree..(eventhough I am a GSD breeder myself)....
One have to love the dog no matter if it is purebred...don't you agree?:)

I think that he might have another breed mixed in. I'm not sure what though. I've grown up around purebred GSD and none have ever looked like him. He is a gorgeous dog.
