my puppy used to be very quiet, but nowadays, he barks if we don't give him our attention, he barks if we don't give him food while we're eating etc. recently i have had to spend all my time at home due to illness and studies, so maybe he is becoming a bit too comfortable with me and starting to bully me a bit. whatever it is, it has to stop because my neighbours are obviously unhappy with it. what is the best way to teach him to stop barking every time he doesnt get what he wants? i am considering buying lemon spray, but wish to avoid that for the time being if possible, but if there is no other option then it will have to be that.

When my neighbor dog comes to visit and starts to bark when I don't pay attention, I would hold my finger to my mouth, maintain eye contact and say "shush" very forcefully.

He would stare and shut up. Works every time so far.

(Only thing is i cannot get him to get off my bean bag... he thinks i put it there for him... *sigh*) ^_^

There are various issues you're able to do: a million. there's a dogs pheremone plug-in that enables soothe dogs's rigidity. This helped with my husky while she became a domestic dog. 2. you may depart a television or radio on for historic past noise to help the domestic dog not sense so on my own. 3. training. you may depart the dogs for a jiffy at a time once you're domicile (like walk exterior the door) and if s/he remains quiet, provide a take care of and strengthen the era of absence over the years. 4. Crate-training. canines have a organic den intuition and s/he could sense safer with some toys in a crate in case you're long previous. My canines certainly placed themselves of their crates as quickly as I depart. 5. dogs sitter. while i became working 10 hour days and had a domestic dog, I employed somebody to come again in a pair situations an afternoon and take my husky out for a walk. This helped incredibly. i wish those issues help.

I just adopted a min. schnauzer and boy does he like to bark.
I found that using a water bottle and shooting him in his butt when he barks helped tremendously! Don't shoot in the face though.
Instead of yelling at him, I point and shoot and tell him no, firmly.
He has learned in a short time that it is not necessary to bark all the time.
I mean he used to bark all the time, but not as much now.
Your pooch is try is just expressing himself.
Good luck!
Oh, ps. using the water bottle method works great for other bad habits too.

I asked Mrs V, who is a dog expert, and her advice is to spray a small amount of water in the puppys face every time it barks.

Eventually it will learn not to.

For fear that the tenants next door were going to report her and have her kicked out - My coworker finally resorted to getting the sour apple spray. She doesn't use it anymore, and I haven't heard her complain about barking since.
