Hi, everyone. My 11 year old daschund recently tore her ACL in her back right leg. The vet gave us some anti inflammatorys and also suggested 500 mg of gloucosamine. Since we've been giving her the pills, she's been vomiting frequently. Assuming it was the gloucosamine, we took her off of that today and gave her 1/4th of her pain pill(vet suggested half, we figured maybe it was too strong for her). Everything was fine from 2 PM today to about 10 minutes ago and sure enough, she vomited again.

Is there any thing that anyone here can suggest? Maybe give me an idea as to what could be causing the vomiting? She doesn't seem to have diarreah and seems to be walking on the leg fine, which indicates the pain pill is working. Anybody have any ideas?

Both anti-inflammatories and glucosamine could cause vomiting especially if the dosage is too high. Keep a record of when she vomits and what it looks like (flem and yellowish or vomiting up food?) Call your vet and give her specifics.

Is she allowed to be putting weight on her leg? Usually after ACL surgery there is a period of time when they are not allowed to put much weight on the leg. Just wondering.
I'm experienced with bigger dogs, so maybe it's different with a daschund.

I would call the vet the dog could have an allergic reaction to the pain medicine.

It sounds like this med can be hard on your dogs stomach as a side effect. Ask your vet if this is the case.

i would take her back to the vet and go over all of what happened to her. Maybe he missed something and didn't pay attention, but you should take her back for another check up.
