Its very common knowledge that the dog which is reported for biting most often is the Labrador Retriever.
Any dog can be perfectly fine as long as it is trained properly, and any dog can be dangerous if it is not. Breed is nothing to do with it, its the lack of brains of people that causes these problems.
I think its the OWNERS of the dogs who are aggressive that need putting to sleep, not thousands of innocent dogs.

Hi, not all rottwielers are dangerous it depends how theyve been brought up.....if they have a caring owner thats taken care of them...iof their owner has been horrible to it then thats why most dogs are visious......i have 3 dalmations and many people think their really sweet dogs and all kind and cuddly well not all 1 of my dogs is very visious towards people...and its because of the way he has been brought up....he was locked up in a back garden and nobody wanted to pay him any attention...he was kept near the shed where nobody went so all the bikes kept falling on him and they never stroked him or cuddled him....they fed him a bowl of dry dog food once a day....he hadnt been played with for that long that his toys had cobwebs on and when we showed him what a ball was agen he was scared of it....so basically it depends how well they are treat and who the owners are....remeber some owners dont like to show their dog that their the boss so that the dog thinks that its in control of any human it comes into contact with....i personnaly think that rotwielers should be kept out the way of small children and muzled all the time when out and kept on a short lead.....i agree with the imprisonmet of the owner and destroying the dog!

All dogs have the potential to be dangerous if they are not trained correctly, or more likely when they are purposefully trained "incorrectly" by irresponsible morons. Dangerous dogs legislation is a joke - a domestic dog is nothing more than a wild animal that has accepted a place in a different kind of pack.
What's wrong with Rotties? it's the training and the dog owner that make a dog what it is. We've had a Rottweiler and it was the most lovely and peaceful dog you could have come across. It might have looked big and menacing on first glance, but that was it.
Incidentally, why single out rottweilers (why not German Shepherds, Bull Mastiff, Bull Dogs, Boxers to name just a few? They are not considered a dangerous breed - at least not in terms of UK legislation. Is it because they look a bit manacing?

In my opinion people like you are no different than the people who raise these animals to be vicious.
They attack the innocent, you attack the innocent.
Why on earth should a full breed of dog be punished for what a few owners train them to do. You don't have a thing to say about the owners being repremanded. Are they not the cause??
I have raised several Rottweilers and all are very loyal, trust worthy, best behaved, loveable, creatures. The only thing they may do is lick you to death.
Apparently you are willing to kill off an entire breed you know absolutely nothing about. I find you as sad as the people who train animals to be vicious. If you were ever attacked by a dog I am sure it would be from the way you treat them. Read your own words. We have! Any human so calous and uncaring should be sentenced! Many serial killers began with hurting animals. I'm concerned.
**parkfieldnr16** I have 4 children and ran a daycare for over 10 years. My Rottweilers and Pitt bull were some of the best "family" pets I have ever had the pleasure of owning and being a part of my family. Have you ever owned one?
**natz** My statistics show German Shepards, Dalmations, and Cocker Spaniels have the highest biting rate. In that order. BTW I own 3 Cockers, and none of them have ever biten anyone. The one I've had 15 yrs. I don't think all of any breed can be catorgorized.
**My Rotts are NOT trained. They are very loyal and do good because they want to please. I have never had any type of problem with them. A woman near by who was deathly afriad of the one bigger one, has gotten to know her over time and now once a week brings her a treat specifically. She just adores them now. She was afraid of what she heard and didn't know. Now that she does her fear has been replaced with admiration.

Why is it that when a dog harms a human people want the destruction of ALL the dogs of that breed?
Think about the most viscious animal on the planet, daily this animal harms, abuses, and kills perhaps hundreds of humans. Like a dog this animal is divided into groups not by what it looks like but purely on where in the world it was BORN!
So if one of them harms a human, shouldn't the rest of their group be destroyed too? After all they too might harm another human!
I don't see that happening because of course I'm talking about the Human species itself!
Perhaps it is the owner who should be destroyed and the dog who gets the jail sentence and rehabilitation. After all it's far more likely to be successful than trying to teach a human anything!
Dogs of any Breed can 'turn' but a large breed or a powerful breed like a Pitbull does more damage, so we should be looking at controlling who owns and breeds them, and perhaps tightening up the laws on controlling ALL dogs in public, rather than destroying the whole canine species which is what would very quickly happen!

That's ridiculous. Rotties are no more likely to bite than any other breed.
I don't know why everyone has such a hard time understanding this....Dogs are Animals! Yes, domesticated, but still animals. I don't know why anyone is ever suprised that dogs bite. If dogs feel threatened, are mistreated, aren't cared for properly, feel scared, etc. are all reasons a dog may bite. What needs to happen is people need to learn how to act around, treat properly, and understand dog body language.
And the prison sentence is ridiculous. You are saying that someone who has a well trained dog lets their dog into a back yard to play....a teen opens the fence and mistreats the animal and gets bit. Then the owner gets half a year? Why? Where is the logic in that... Someone threatens an owner, a dog moves to protect them....yet the owner goes to jail? A person breaks in a home, the dog bites....the owner goes to jail? Think that through...you can't just throw owners in jail for their dog biting. Plus, to destroy a dog for its loyalty or for defending itself is asinine.

It's not the breed. It's the owners.
Some breeds are more aggressive and owners who condone that behavior are the ones who create "vicious" animals. The owners who nurture and love the animals create the kind of gentle animal that can walk down the street and be loved by all.
Any dog that harms a human has done so because they think it is OK. The dogs owner should be destroyed.

"Any Dog that harms a Human Being should firstly be destroyed, then have a minimum prison sentence of 6 months for the owner."
Hmmm, My mean old Rott bit a young man 2 weeks ago. I live way out in the country with no neighbors and was home alone. On my way back from the barn, a strange man that looked VERY ratty pulled in and got out of his truck saying he was here to fix the barn. Nothing is wrong with the barn. I asked then ordered him to leave. He kept coming towards me, I felt threatened and let my dog go. Why should I go to jail and my dog be destroyed? Would rape or murder for me have been a better option? By the way, my dangerous Rott let's my grand kids ride on it's back like a pony.

I agree that the owner should be punished if their dog does any damage to another human being, but I think your views on rottweilers are a bit primitive. Human agression is not a trait bred into ANY breed of dog, so rotties are most certainly NOT inherently human agressive. They are, however, a breed that requires an experienced owner who is capable of handling a dominant breed, and , let's face it, a lot of dominant breed owners haven't the first clue what they are doing. Distroying the dogs does not and will not help the situation because it fails to attack the problem at the root....bad breeding, and irresponsible ownership. If regulations are put in place, requiring experience and education in order to own a large dominant breed, as well as stricter leash laws and anti-tethering laws, and breeding regulations, are put into place, we would see far fewer incidents from dogs of all breeds.
And, dogs don't 'turn'. A dog is a product of it's breeding, socialization, and upbringing in general. It's behavior is related directly to the skill and dedication of it's owner.

I don't believe in the theory that a dog is bad due to his breed. You can make a chihuahua a biter, if you want to (although a bigger dog can do more harm, of course)
What I do believe is that some kind of people search especially for dogs known as "dangerous" to push their weak self-esteem. They then make her dog the creature they want themselves to surround with.
Believe it or not I have seen people that get a kick out of the sentence "don't touch my dog, it is dangerous"
I don't have to say that these people aren't the most intelligent, I guess you know this kind.
So it is no surprise for me that rottweilers have a bad reputation (as well as doberman) - many of their owners worked on this.
I can't say that I agree with you that any dog that ever bites a human should be destroyed. There were teenager who attacked the harmless old dog of my grandma with sticks until the already bleeding dog bite one of them in the leg. It wouldn't be right for me in cases like this to shoot the dog.
But I agree - dogs who are aggressive and known "biter" should be managed in some way so that they will never ever bite someone again.
