i have a 2 year old rotti, shes 125 lbs and we now live in a 1 story house and no fenced in yard. she gained weight from not being as active and my father cut back her food for awhile now to a half of a can of wet food and a half of a cup of dry food for breakfast and dinner...i notice sometimes she has pain in her back hip (i know its common for these dogs to have hip problems from being over weight) but before it gets worse is there anything you can suggest doing, a different food, anything? are there joint/hip meds she can take?

My husband and I are looking to buy a mini dachshund and I've been researching breeders in our area, but I've never bought a dog before. I don't know what to look for, the questions to ask. I don't want to support an irresponsible breeder who is only after money or get a dog that isn't healthy. What kinds of questions should I ask a breeder and is there anything I should be looking for in particular when selecting one?

would you get offended if a person tied there dog up in the park for being naughty ?

a dog jumped up at me and my dog went mad...so i tied him up for 5mins just to let him no that he cannot attack for no reason!

he was really upset and barking, but more of a high pitched bark, but i took no notice untill he stopped and then walked to him made him sit then gave him a treat and let him play again..

he did not attack again !

but i noticed that some other dog owners did not like what i was doing..

1 dog owner said that her dog goes for other dogs when other dogs jump up at her,she said her dog does not like it..so i said well i think that if you let them get away with it once then they will keep doing it!

do you think shes right to let her dog do that ?

Let's say a dog (for whatever reason) went to live with a new family and was well cared for. Does the dog miss it's former owner?

How well did it work for you? How much did you spend on classes?

I'm all set to get a Mini Schnauzer around the beginning of December and I want to bring her up right. I've had a Schnauzer before but this will be my first puppy on my own. I was looking at the training classes at PetSmart and I'm curious to know what expieriences (if any) you've had with them. I'm open to other suggestions, preferably something with other dogs so she can socialize. I am in the Denver Metro area, FYI, and I am on a budget, so nothing too extravagant! lol Thanks!

I use Interceptor for my dog. The breeder from where I got my dog used Heartgard before for her. My vet always gives her Interceptor. I was talking with the breeder and I told her the vet gave me interceptor for the dog and she said not to use that anymore. That it was dangerous.
I just wanted to know if is true that Interceptor is dangerous (not that I dont believe the breeder, I just want to know why is it dangerous), and If Heartguard is in fact better than Interceptor...

I appreciate all your help... =)

I have been using Frontline Plus on my 6 months old Husky. I was just wondering what is the best control method that prevents and kills fleas and ticks. She spends so much time in the backyard and we are always going hiking and all that, I just want to make sure she is protected against everything... Well at least almost everything...
I've been doing so research and found some other products that apparently work better than Frontline (Bio Spot, SentryPro, etc) But because I've never used any of those I'd like some info on them, if they are safe, and if they are in fact better than Frontline at protecting the dogs.

As always I appreciate your help... =)

my friend has a Presa Canario pup (10wks old) i would love to get it and my kids are crazy about it. But i am not sure what to do. I will have 8 sessions with a trainer if i get it. But knowing the rep that this breed has i am afraid it might hurt my kids when it gets bigger, i know any breed of dog could do that. So that if my problem. If anyone that has kids and one of these dogs could let me know what they think i would be very grateful. I have a 11yr old boy and a 5yr and 2yr old girls. they have been wanting to get a dog and this just popped up because my friend is moving and can't have but one dog, i hate to see the dog go to the pound or worse to someone that will use it for fighting. which is what has been done alot with this breed of dogs. so please anyone that has any info i would be very happy to hear from you. thanks

Hi All,

First of all, I have a vet appointment today to get it look at, so I am looking for other information, similar situations, and if i should have to pay for any of the med. bills. My puppy was spayed about a month ago and her internal sutures still have not absorbed, even though they said they were absorbable. We adopted her sister out about a week after sugery and the new family told us she got a really bad infection from the internal stitches not dissolving and had to have them manually removed. I looked at Sadie's scar last night and realized I could see and feel her stitches also. Everything looks healed, but the stitches are clearly still there and she has started to get a red bump over one of the knots. Anyone else had this happen? If the vet has to do a procedure, the same vet who put in the stitches, should I still be required to pay? Anything else is appreciated!!

My dog and the neighbot dog are digging under the chain link fence. I only have so much wood to make a little barrier under the fence and the neighbor is too lazy to make anything on his side. Is there stuff that I can put on the spot where they dig to deter them? Like an irritant or something? Not poisen.

I see the names thrown around a lot to describe various dogs, whether it be too tiny (teacup) or a "designer mutt" (oodles, poos, and so on). I am curious as to how people feel about the free use of these terms, even in a rescue situation?

I feel, that by using these terms, even if the dog was rescued, we are promoting and marketing for the bad breeders who produce these too tiny or mixed breed dogs. I will never use a name like this to ever describe a dog. I just can't imagine doing this. You don't know who might be listening and think it a good "breed" to get as a result of you talking highly of your dog. That person may not realize the whole story, like that your dog was a rescue. Then they may not go in search of one as rescue, but rather look for one of these "for profit" breeders.

So I'm just curious what other think on the idea of us using these names and free marketing for the bad breeders, and puppy mills?

The house has been treated. The cats and dog have been shampooed and Frontlined. It's been a week since I saw a live flea anywhere. The dog is scratching herself raw on the belly and butt. I think she's allergic to the flea bites. I've done a little online research and I have read that Benedryl is safe for dogs with flea allergies- I will double check with the vet. My question to you is- has anyone tried an organic or all natural soothing cream or spray on a dog with similar problems? When I've had poison Ivy or bug bites I used Aveeno oatmeal lotions and I was wondering if anyone knows if this is safe for the dog or if there is something similar out there. Now that the fleas are gone I think the scratching will stop if I can just soothe the red areas...What do you think?

As always, thanks!

Lola got spayed on Monday. She has been on the prescribed pain meds. She had been eating a little until yesterday when she started to eat more normally. But...she has not gone number 2 since her surgery. The last time was Monday morning. Is this normal? Can the meds be the cause. What should I do? Do I need to talk to the vet?

My male pit is 10 months old. He is alpha male I am pretty sure. He's a stubborn guy. He and his brother used to get into spats when they were little and it would end in us having to break them up. My friend had his brother, but she got rid of him. I would like to get another dog for him to have a friend. What kind of dog do you think would be a good breed so that they got along? I assume it would be a female, but I don't know what breed. I'd like it to be big enough for them to play together so I don't want like a chiuaua or however you spell that. He is neutered..any ideas?
