Hi There
I think you are making a good decision getting a female but you do want to introduce them slowly as your existing female has established her dominance in your home and she may get her nose out of place for a while but after the new pup realizes she has entered a new home and the existing Alpha females home and respects her for that things will be fine
I have introduced many females to my home and it always works out you just have to take time to make the existing pup realize you are not replacing her just adding a new friend for her enlarging your family per say you will have to give her a bit of extra love to let her know she is still loved the same just a new addition to the home
Good Luck to You and your New Pup

I have 2 females and had NO problem introducing the new one. I did take my (1st) dog with me when i went to look at my 2nd dog and made sure they got along and tried to read the body language. When/If you do get a new dog make sure to give your maltese a little special treatment. Good Luck!

It depends on the dogs. It would probly be smarter to go with a male but they could grow to love each other.
