I use Interceptor for my dog. The breeder from where I got my dog used Heartgard before for her. My vet always gives her Interceptor. I was talking with the breeder and I told her the vet gave me interceptor for the dog and she said not to use that anymore. That it was dangerous.
I just wanted to know if is true that Interceptor is dangerous (not that I dont believe the breeder, I just want to know why is it dangerous), and If Heartguard is in fact better than Interceptor...

I appreciate all your help... =)

You all have to remember that vets are in the business of selling meds. They will sell whichever they can get the best price on.
All the heartworm prevenatives prevent heartworm.
There is a vet in Boca Raton, Fl who has links to the studies done on all the preventatives. He also PROVES that they do not need to be given every month.

Click on articles and scroll down to the one on heartworm. Be sure to follow the one to the government's website. I have read the studies on all of the heartworm preventatives.

I use Interceptor myself-also recommended by my vet. My dogs were on Heartguard a long time ago, but Heartguard doesn't do the same job. With Interceptor, I get no tics, no fleas, no internal parasites. Why would I want to use something else?
I have a great respect for my vet-he is very concerned for the well-being of my animals, and doesn't usually recommend anything specific-just what to avoid to keep a dog healthy, so I trust his judgement.
I have heard bad things about Revolution, however.

My vet wouldn't use interceptor.. but I don't know why.. She had me use heartgard.. I don't know if one is better than the other however.. (In my case my dog had heartworm when he was found as a stray, so it's possible her reasons are because of the treatment he had)

It most likely depends on what the vet prefers to give. Some dogs have had reactions to all the types of heartworm products. I used the shots when they were available and I loved them but they were pulled from the market due to some type of problems that dogs were having. Mine had no issues with them at all.
I now use Heartguard Plus for my dogs.

I would say believe your vet. Who went to vet school to study?
Is the breeder qualified to say which medication is not OK?
Talk to your vet and ask if he knows if Interceptor has had any problems. Tell that your dog's breeder advised you against it.
Actually, I have heard that Heartguard is not so good but that was long ago.

If it's ok to give your dog heartgard, then its ok to give them interceptor. If you are looking for a flea/heartworm preventive, you might want to give Sentinal a try.
