It could be a food allergy. I have an APBT that when she was a pup scratched all the time. She had a rash on all over. I had the allergy tests done and they didn't show much of anything. The best the Vet. could come up was a food allergy, meat and meat products. They put her on Eucanuba F/P (fish and potato) and a special shampoo. That did the trick. She still gets a bit itchy from time to time but not bad and no rashes. The bad part is the food is about $70.00 for a 30lb bag. But she is happy.

I have 2 Pits. I've noticed that Pits have sensitive skin in general. Our dogs itch a lot. I've started giving them baths with oatmeal shampoo. You can buy this at any pet supply store. The oatmeal helps to soothe the itching. You may also try giving her something to chew on all the time to take her mind off of the chewing on herself and the itching. I've never done the special medicine and shampoo bc it gets really expensive when you have to keep buying it. Try the shampoo. See if it helps

Time to go back to the vet's- if the first treatment did not work, they need to look into other possibilities. Yah, it's expensive, you just spent $200, but welcome to the world of being a responsible dog owner.
Don't put junk on it like the above poster suggests- that stops her from itching, but ignores the cause- she'll still be miserable and unhealthy.

if the meds from the vet are not helping this isn't just dry skin. She might be allergic to her dog food. look at changing to a brand that doesn't have corn.

Pits have several kinds of skin problems, you can take him to the vet and they can do skin tests, it is very easy to control, make sure its not fleas or mange. Vet can also eliminate these problems.

Try changing her food to a lamb and rice diet, also the farm store will have some stop itch that you spray on the spots. That may give her some relief. good luck, and thanks for caring.

Switch the food to a grainless one to start with. Most itchy is due to allergies either food or environmental. Most food allergies are due to grains in the kibble.

If she bites, try putting a foul tasting harmless ointment where she is itching, or u can use something really spicy. that may sound harsh, but it works.
