Lola got spayed on Monday. She has been on the prescribed pain meds. She had been eating a little until yesterday when she started to eat more normally. But...she has not gone number 2 since her surgery. The last time was Monday morning. Is this normal? Can the meds be the cause. What should I do? Do I need to talk to the vet?

Get her off the pain meds!!! If something was wrong with her you wouldn't know because you have her doped up.

Some pain meds do cause constipation. Call the vet. Is she eating normally? Drinking water? She shouldn't really need the pain meds anymore. Also discuss that with the vet.

Some of the drugs we use for pain control or as pre-anesthetics can slow down gut motility. Plus she was fasted and it will take 2-3 days for everything to get back to normal. We typically send home 5 days of pain medication for our surgery patients and the ones we use don't usally cause constipation. Is she eating well and drinking? If so, take her for a gentle walk to help stimulate things. I wouldn't be worried at this point.

My opinion? Don't use a vet that won't prescribe at least several days of pain medication after a surgery. Would you not expect pain control for your child or yourself after surgery? Of course. Animals feel the same pain we do, and just because they don't show the same signs of pain that we do, doesn't mean they don't feel it.

Call the vet.

Yes, pain meds can cause constipation. This far out from the surgery she shouldn't be ON pain meds any longer. Give her some gentle exercise to help move things along... walking is great.

I would give the vet a call. Maybe there is something else they can give her that her system can handle better.
