Let's say a dog (for whatever reason) went to live with a new family and was well cared for. Does the dog miss it's former owner?

Dog lives at the NOW moment. Previous memories won't bother. Just treatt her well.

I believe the dog maintains memories from the previous home, good and bad, hence the reason you may have a dog that shows fear of certain actions, or often specifically is afraid of a male or female figure. I don't think dogs ever forget a person they once loved, though. It's possible they may not think about the former owner after a while, but if that former owner were to show up, he's suddenly remember again.
My dogs remember the road I turn onto when nearing our home and get excited before the house is even in view. Oh, I think they both miss and remember many things.

Yes, the dog misses the owner. Wouldn't you miss your child, or parent? They feel much the same as we do. With love and attention, the dog will accept the new owners, but will always love and miss the first one. Much like the way people feel about their first love - it's always kind of a hole in your heart.

Yes, a dog will miss its owners for a little while. Then the dog will get used to its new home and owners.

Most probably because dogs, of all pets, usually get really attached to their owners but after a while the dog will probably warm up to the new owner.

Dogs are creatures of habit.
Yes they would miss their former family and home, but if the new owners give routine, love and controll they soon forget.
they are like us, all they really need is love and tenderness

Yes they do.

My Dad had to move into assisted living due to frail health (he's 85 and has a bad heart). So I brought his border collie back with me to live out her remaining days (she's 15). For the first week or so she mooned about actually mourning for Dad and running to the car all the time as if to say "OK the visit's over. I want to go back home."

But she's fine now. She has a baby brother-dog to boss around, me and my partner to keep in line, 400 acres to explore and a flock of chickens to herd.

But sometimes I catch her looking like she's still mooning for my Dad.

It may, at least for a time. But dogs adopted from shelters prove that dogs are very resilient and accept a new pack (family or owner) in a relatively short time.

Of course! I don't know for how long though. I'm sure if the old owner went to visit - the dog would still remember him/her
