It's because a lot of the time that IS the reason that a guy doesn't want to neuter his dog. Just mention it to them, they'll go pale and get a bit faint.

Women just don't seem to have the same reaction.

That said, I currently have 4 male intact dogs. No behavior or health issues.

I can see why you believe it's fine to keep his bits. I know it seems cruel but at the end of the day it's always best to neuter your dog because the risks on the health and behaviour in later time is MUCH smaller.

If your dog were to get cancer i'm sure you love him enough to feel guilty about that for a very long time, and cancer is big risk with un-neutered dogs.

So my advice is to get the dog neutered and dont live it on the risky side. Your dog will love you for far longer and vets recommend neutering and they, afterall, are the experts!

hope this helped.

It does prevent some problems, like marking territory. But mainly the reason for neutering is to prevent the pet population from growing out of control so that animal shelters across this nation do not have to put pets to death! There is only so much money to take care of unwanted animals and too many pet owners to not want the lifelong responsiblity of pet ownership. As much as you think that you can control your dogs behavior you are wrong. A dog will do what he has to to get his. So by keeping this perspective you are adding to the problem that costs this country millions in tax dollars and you help the pets suffering in small cramped kennels wondering why me!

Your dog may end up with testicular cancer and will have an enlarged prostate in time. He may also contribute to the problem of overpopulation.
Not having one neutered is a personal choice.
I think that many men do not like the idea of having it done but many people do not want a neutered dog and that is fine as long as you take precautions with them and not let them fight or breed indiscrimently with others and you have regular vet check up done it is ok not to have it done.
Amny dog have lived long healthly lives and never been neutered and have no issues.

Male dogs become less aggressive after they've been neutered and are less likely to roam. One thing I would like to point out is that the majority of dog attacks (especially those with pit bulls or rottweilers) are caused by intact males.

The thing about neutering is to help control the pet population.

I had my female dog fixed because I never had any intentions of breeding her and I didn't want to deal with a monthly cycle with her.

As long as you are responsible then there shouldn't be a problem.

Unless he's being used for breeding, get him neutered. He's not going to miss breeding-dogs do it on instinct, not for enjoyment. Neutering helps prevent unwanted pups, plus, has the added benefit of reducing bladder, testicular, and prostate disease and cancers in dogs. He'll be healthier in the long run if he's neutered. He also won't have the tendency to run, looking for females in heat, and may reduce agressiveness.

I'm anticipating at least 10 thumbs down for this one, but what the hell...

Well, real men don't feel the need to prove their machismo. Men who act all macho have doubts (however large or small) about their own sexuality, and therefore feel they have something to prove (be it a sports car or an unneutered dog) - that big ole tough dog with his nuts intact is an extension of the man himself. I say "the lady doth protest too much!"

because it is quite common when discussing this with males of our species to see them reflexively cringe and reach protectively for their "bits". I have had this conversation with one of my 8 male employees (gosh i'm cursed) about his rottie who continuously jumps the 6 foot fence and goes wandering around in the wee hours of the morning- I have explained to him that this may well be what the dog is leaving for, and that he is going to either be picked up by animal control, hit by a car, or taken by one of the drug dealing punks in his neighborhood. He looks pale every time I suggest neutering the dog, so he has, in his mind, solved the problem by keeping the dog chained in the yard, he is also actively looking for a female german shepard (preferably free) because his dog is "lonely".

Well, it kind of is. Testosterone is produced in the testes, and that tends to be what people think of as 'manliness'. I have four dogs - three dogs and a b itch - and all were neutered as soon as I felt they were balanced enough (three were rescues). But, it is your own personal descision. =)
