My 14 pound dauchund is very attached to me. When my nephew brought his dog to the house she (my dog) was fine with him until I got home. Then she went nuts. She then got sick. I took her to the vet and he diagnosed her with an infection brought on by the stress of my nephew's dog.

A couple of days later, she was around another dog. Again she was fine until I came home and then she went after the other dog. What can I do to make her not get so worked up?

I have an 8 or 9 year old male yorkshire terrier. I was home today all day and i noticed a difference all of a sudden in him. He normally will be right at my heel following me all over the house, but today he wouldnt make an effort to get up. Also, when he hears the door open or hears the mail lady put mail in the mailbox, he will just go crazy barking and today he just layed there. When i pick him up, he whimpers like there is something wrong with his back leg(s). He tries to go down the stairs to the back yard sideways and very gingerly and he walks gingerly too. Any ideas because im kinda worried about it.

I've just finished college and now I'm moving out of my mom's house and into my first apartment. I have a siberian husky named Zoey and my mom and I agreed she would come with me. The apartment has a decent sized back yard, it's not just a small patio. There is also a nice enclosed field where I'll be able to allow Zoey to run around and play. But I've heard stories about Siberian huskies jumping fence, digging holes to escape, and act a bit wild. Zoey has always been calm and cool and even though I can't see her doing those things, at only 1 1/2 years old I'm scared maybe her disposition can change. Any advise?

I have a 9 week old German Shepherd that I just got yesterday, I take her outside to eliminate regularly, almost every 30 minutes or so and she produces.

Today I took her outside, let her roam around for about five minutes and when she did not produce I put her in her crate and went to the bank. Not more than an hour later I returned to find that she had eliminated (feces) in her crate. I did not punish her due to the fact that I have read that you do not punish the dog if you do not catch it in the act or shortly there-after. I took her outside, she did not eliminate, I gave her a bath and put her in the clean half of the crate (a large crate with a divider.)

My question is primarily: if she does do this again, do I allow her to wallow in it and suffer? Does this teach her a lesson? Or do I proceed as I previously had?

can you tell me who bred the first BORDER COLLIES? I read somewhere that it was Old Hemp but that sounds weird. I know they were bred in the late 1800's early 1900's for sheep herding in England and Scotland, but I need to know this! 10 points who can tell me the right answer-preferably a link!

I'm trying to decide what my first breed of dog should be, but I have never owned a dog before. I have trained a GSD/Lab mix and I have helped train a willfull GSD puppy.
I definitely want a medium or large breed dog. Do you have any suggestions?

I have a 5 1/2 month old pit bull puppy that when I got him back from his former owner had no weight on him at all. He was so thin that his testicals had not yet dropped. Oreo looked as though he had never been given any food or water and had not been allowed out of the cage that he was kept in when the owners were gone or sleeping. When I brought him home 48 hours ago he was shakey and so thin that you could count every bone in his body my family didnt think he was going to be ok but with in 45 minutes of feeding him he started to play and walk around better. I gave him a big bowl of food and a big bowl of gatoraide to get him back to a little bit of something. Was I right in feeding him or did I do something wrong? He is showing signs of being alot better and seems to have picked up at least 5 pounds in that short time frame.

Could anyone PLEASE recommend a good garbage can for my kitchen? I need either a brand name, a website, or a store.

Needs to be locking or tightly sealed so even if the dog tips it over it won't open. Would prefer something easily sanitized. Don't really care about material but my kitchen is natural wood, hunter green, and black appliances, so matching would be nice, but not necessary. Needs to be fairly large, not something under sink. Price is negotiable.

Any ideas? So far I have found zilch in local stores.

(Jeez, I sound like those folks who want 'tiny, quiet, shedless, well-behaved, already potty trained, cheap dogs') LOL

PS: The dog has learned every single thing I have taught her except for this one annoying thing- I am working on it every day but a stronger can would really help.

Is it normal to have a certain brand of dog food make your pup fart a lot? I was feeding my pup Nutro but now I slowly switched it to Iams. she never used to fart before (At least from what I noticed) but now she farts, and it smells sooo bad. This happened to our other dog too. Is it normal for this to happen? Or do the dog fats smell bad with certain brands of dog food?

i tried Evo but its too expensive. i really wish i could afford to feed them that but right now we just cant afford it. i switched to canidae and its more affordable but i cant get my dogs to eat it. one of my dogs starved herself for almost 3 days so i had to start mixing it with wet food which got too expensive. i went to a feed store and the guy recomended diamond naturals for small breeds. he gave us some samples and i came home and did some research on it only to find out that its crap. i know some people have said the chicken soup brand food is good but the guy at the feed store said diamond makes it and its really not all that great.
how am i suppose to feed my dogs healthy and still be able to feed myself?

1) You think the house is too orderly.

2) You're already an insomniac.

3) You want your vet to buy a new BMW.

4) Your furniture looks to new.

5) You love the sound of puppies in the morning, noon, afternoon, evening, midnight, predawn, etc.

6) Your garden and backyard need renovating and you don't want to pay a landscaper.

7) Your neighbors don't complain enough already.

8) The kids aren't really a challenge.

9) If you can train and show one dog, why not ten.

10) You can't think of a better way to test your spouse's loyalty.

Anyone agree?
