I have a golden retriever puppy who is about 14 weeks old. He just threw up about 15 minutes ago and is laying around now. He is normally very active and now he doesn't want to play. Should I take him to the vet?

YES, please take him to the vet! Those are the earliest sign of parvo - vomiting and lethargy. If you get him to the vet now, you may be able to treat him conservatively and still save him - if you wait it will either be a long, expensive hospital stay or losing your dog - even with the hospitalization, you may still lose your dog. Do not get a false sense of security if you dog has had all his shots - at 14 weeks he still technically needs at least 1 more booster, and isn't considered "immune" for another 3 weeks after that. Many, many pupies contract some nasty disease despite vaccines - the maternal antibodies interfer with the vaccines often, so it takes a full series and at least one booster after 15 weeks to get a good immunity.

Puppies tend to put absolutely everything in their mouths, so when one vomits occasionally it's always possible that he's just gotten into something he shouldn't and is feeling a little 'queasy'. Especially if he's had all his shots.

...HOWEVER if the vomiting is repeated, accompanied by diarrhea, and if your puppy seems lethargic and dull-eyed then you need to get veterinary help immediately.

Vomiting is one of the signs of several very serious, and possibly fatal dog illnesses, including Parvo, and if that's turn out to be the case with your puppy, every minute counts (literally).

With prompt, aggressive medical attention and supportive care a puppy stands a better chance of surviving these nasty diseases. Dehydration is the number one killer in young puppies in these instances.

If you're in any doubt at all, definitely call your veterinarian or take your pup to the nearest 24 hour emergency animal clinic.

Best of luck, hope you're puppy is just a little 'out of sorts'!

YES, take him asap. IT could be parvo I had never heard of this virus until last week when my APBT caught it. She is still in the vet doing better but it will cost $$ if you want him to live and if he caught the virus. I have spent so far $800+.

Give him a few hours, keep fresh water available and watch him. If he doesn't perk up by tomorrow morning, take him to the vet.

He probably just ingested something other than food--you know how they play with lizards, eat grass, eat cat poop, dig into the garbage and eat spoiled leftovers. Dogs have no sense when it comes to eating only dog food.

Hope your puppy gets better.

I would watch him for now. Let him rest. Make sure he at least will drink water later. If he doesn't get better or if he gets worse call your vet.
