I am adopting a lab from the shelter and they say he is 1 and half years old. I was wondering if I can still train him easily or will it be more difficult since he is older?

He is a dog, dogs can be trained.. It's not a big deal.. unless he has huge problems with behaviour .. But to train him basics he should be fine.

You mean basic general obedience training? It may actually be easier since his attention span should be better than a puppy's. My dog was 13 months when i got her and started training right away. She learns very quickly and was fairly easy to train. Some things take longer than others anyway (like loose leash walking), but in general a 1 1/2 yr. old dog should be just fine. If you mean housetraining, that will depend on how well he was trained previously, but should still be no more difficult than training an older puppy (6 months or so) - still easier than training a small puppy. See links for general training tips.

You can easily train any animal using the clicker method. Go to any pet store like Petco or Petsmart and buy a clicker and a book or a few CD's on Clicker training I like the how of Bow Wow and the how of bow wow 2 you can teach them to do anything! My dog was 14 when I got her and she could set lay down dance roll over speak and all kinds of things! She has gone to the rainbow bridge now but you can teach them even to play pianos or turn off and on the lights it is up to you and the size of your dog. Good luck.

to be honest with u its a lil difficult but not way too difficult since hes not too old . u need patience and a lot fo tme to spend with him on training , even young dogs need a lot of time to train . he will still get trained with treats, eye contact, firm tone , and praise for being a good boy .

good luck

sure you can.
You just may need to be more consistant and firm but fair.
Maybe the shelter can give you some information about training the particular dog you are getting.
Labs are easily trained

yes! usually the trainability of a dog will depend on his personality and breed, but labs are big people pleasers, and should be easily trained at this age.

Yep! That's how old my girl was when I got her, and she's loved training. Labs are really smart too - good for you!!!

You need patience - repetition - consistency - treats or favourite toy - and an understanding of dogs.

Dogs will learn if there is something in it for them.
