My 14 pound dauchund is very attached to me. When my nephew brought his dog to the house she (my dog) was fine with him until I got home. Then she went nuts. She then got sick. I took her to the vet and he diagnosed her with an infection brought on by the stress of my nephew's dog.

A couple of days later, she was around another dog. Again she was fine until I came home and then she went after the other dog. What can I do to make her not get so worked up?

It sounds like your dog has anxiety problems to me If she is mostly anxious when she is at home I would use a dog appeasing hormone called DAP. Its the hormone that the mother dog gives off when her puppies are nursing to calm them down. It comes in three variety's a spray you can use in a kennel or car for traveling, theres also a collar that she wears everywhere like a flea collar that gives off the DAP for extreme cases. For you I would recommend the wall plug in it plugs into outlets and gives off the DAP like a glade plug in it would calm her in her home where she feels like she has to protect you and her home. Ive used the spray for years while traveling and its great!

This is a behavioral issue that won't go away slowly. Many times, people end up having to give their dog medication to calm them because they end up getting sick, as you described, at every stressful event. Talk to your vet about it and ask what they have to offer. There are several different types of medication. Sometimes they can be given the medication over the course of a few months while they are also being trained to change their behavior. Then, once the behavior changes, they can be 'weaned' off the medication and may no longer need it.
Good luck.

Get yourself and her enrolled into a novice level obedience class (heel, come, sit, down, stand and stay, both on and off leash plus problem solving and basic manners for home, away and while traveling). The better of these classes will have 15-30 dogs in the class with you, among which your dog must learn to work and among whom you must learn to work your dog.

Take her to a dog shrink. You have a neurotic dog.
