Hi, was out with my Dalmatian tonight and called her back (very rarely listens, but a bit more since I have been pregnant), i had to shout a few times. The last time I did, using a very stern voice, she stopped , turned round and bark/moaned, like a woo woo woo (not a bark but a "Mum, get over it"~~). Any of tour dogs back chat like a hormonal teenager? LOL

I made an appointment for my six month old male chihuahua to get neutered. While I was in the waiting room, the vet gave me a copy of an article about the pros and cons of neutering a small breed dog. The article focused more on the cons. I didn't understand why the vet was trying to tell me... I thought that neutering was a must! The vet then tells me that it's up to me if I want to get him neutered, but that the health benifits are not significant. He said that there is only a very small chance that my dog could get prostate cancer later in life if he is not neutered. On the other hand, the vet said that it is a very good idea to spay a female dog due to avoiding major health problems like breast cancer. He said that the probability of my dog getting another dog pregnant is very small as well (my major concern was that my dog didn't father any puppies). He gave a few reasons for this. So I left without neutering my dog, and the vet didn't charge me for the visit.

I have a VERY large hairy dog, who loves to swim. The problem is his hair never really has a chance to fully dry so he gets a bit of a mildew type smell to him, this is all over his body. His skin is fine, no signs of any type of skin infections etc. It's just the moisture from swimming every day. Any ideas on how to reduce moisture next to a dog's skin, other than blow drying him daily?

I know many people recommend adoption, which is great to give a home to a homeless dog.

However why would I want to bring a dog to my family and between my kids and I do not have any background or genetic information on them or their temperature?

For dog owners that have, or have had, a dog with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) damage: What kind of treatment did you use? Did you opt for surgery, and which type of surgery? How long did the leg take to heal fully, and did your dog return to normal (no arthritis)? My great dane has a vet appointment on Tuesday for what obviously appears to be a stretched or torn ACL. I would just like some advice...

We have a male and female collie. The female was in heat 7 weeks ago and they mated. The past two weeks the male has been aggresively trying to mate with the female even though she has been out of heat for 7 weeks. Could this unexplained aggression mean that she is pregnant? He has never been like this around her before except when she is in heat. She has been getting chubby, but thought she was just eating more. Then I noticed her nipple felt larger when rubbing her belly.

My 9 month old pit mix is in heat. We have been keeping her up and away from male dogs. She got out or was let out of the fence last night (hubby forgot to bring her in). Is there a way to tell if a dog has been "gotten"? She has been spotting/bleeding since Monday. The vet said to keep a close eye on her outside for another week or so. And then we could make our appt to get her fixed. His office is closed for me to call and ask if I can tell if she was "gotten" or not. Thanks

My Dog (7 month old Lab) just got ahold of a bottle of body lotion and started snacking on it. I tried to get it from him but he decided it tasted good and ran with it, until I finally got ahold of him... do you think he'll die? What do you think I should do?

I am very interested in looking to adopt a puppy or a young dog, but I work 9-5 almost every day, and am taking some night classes also. Are there some breeds that can be okay until I get home in the evening time? or is it not a smart idea to get a dog if I cannot be with it during the day most of the week?

and scratch you and the dog owner did not apologize to you. And next day you find your scratches infected? It so happen to me yesterday but I wasn't afraid of the dog because I am a dog owner and I do understand that dogs do play roughly. But what I don't understand is why the owner is so irresponsible of letting the dog run out of the house without looking to make sure all the gate are close. And afterward the owner think it alright for their dog to scratch other people without saying sorry or anything at all. What is my next step if I find myself with a infection from the scratch?
