and scratch you and the dog owner did not apologize to you. And next day you find your scratches infected? It so happen to me yesterday but I wasn't afraid of the dog because I am a dog owner and I do understand that dogs do play roughly. But what I don't understand is why the owner is so irresponsible of letting the dog run out of the house without looking to make sure all the gate are close. And afterward the owner think it alright for their dog to scratch other people without saying sorry or anything at all. What is my next step if I find myself with a infection from the scratch?

I don't want to bring it to court or something. It just that I feel the dog owner is a very irresponsible person. I do not want this to happen to other people especially elderly or children.

I am very disappoint of some of the answer I'm receiving from you guys. Why do some people think I am crazy or need to grow up. My concern is not for myself but for others people which I stated earlier. If you think I'm crazy or just making small things into big deal than I don't think you guys have any concern for others safety. Did I say I was going to sue anybody or ask for any medical bills to be pay, no I didn't. I just want to know if I should confront them and tell them to not let their dog run out of the house with out supervision. What if the dog get hit by a car or if the dog attack a elderly. From what I know of their are many elderly people living in my block and having difficulty walking I don't want them to get hurt.

One last comment, for the people who thinks I need to grow up or get over it. You guy should be the one that need to think before you talk. I'm more concern for others and not just thinking of for myself.

You have to decide whether you want to make an issue of the incident, or not.

Should you decide to make an issue of this, I would do something that would require action on the owner's part. "Yesterday your dog scratched me and it got infected. I need to know how YOU want to resolve this? Oh by the way, just to be on the safe side, I'm assuming that you've decided to control your dog so no one else, like a little kid, would get hurt. We certainly wouldn't want animal control to get involved, would we?"

As a dog owner, you should know this is all on the owner's shoulders. What sort of leash laws do they have in your area? They could be violating that law, whereupon you could actually call the police and they will be fined. It's not fair to you to go outside with the fear of being harmed. They may just be scratches, but ANY sort of infection is serious business. Also, why is there so much bacteria in the dog's claws? Simple scratches shouldn't cause infections. And what if the dog runs out and gets hit by a car? It sounds to me that the owners of this dog do not know how to take care of it, or they just don't care. Either way, something needs to be done to teach these people a lesson. As a last resort, you could take legal action. If their dog assaults you, they are personally responsible.

first of all, why didn't you wash your arm, or leg after the dog ACCIDENT LY scratched you? As for the owner saying sorry, why should they have to apologize for a little scratch? And are you that petty that you would think about doing something like suing the owners if your scratch gets infected? OMG!! I feel sorry for your neighbor, because they are the ones who have to live in fear that their crazy neighbor will sue them if something happens!

All i have to say is grow up, omg, you got scratched by a dog! poor you!

Your first step is to take pictures of the wounds on a digital camera, so that you have the proof. Second, see your doctor. The animal could have been rabid or is carrying some other sort of disease. Third - contact the police about the incident so that it is on file in case the dog attacks someone else. I think once the police informs the dog owner that a report has been filed against him he will be a little more careful with his dog. Good luck!

taking any legal action would cost more than it's worth. and if your scratch is infected it's your fault not the dogs, you should have put peroxide on it, and neosporin! without taking legal action, knock on the neighbors door and tell them how you feel about there dog, thats the only thing you can do... oh and GET OVER IT!

clean the area thoroughly w/ peroxide and see if the infection goes away. If it is to the point where you'd need an antibiotic, obviously you will need to see a physician. If you feel like you should not have to pay your medical bills due to the neglegence of your neighbor you could file under his/her homeowner's insurance (if he/she has it).

Let it go, it is not worth the aggravation, or the money you would spend taking it to court or whatever.
