We just got a boston terrier puppy tonight. He is 7 weeks old. My husband and I both work full time. What is the best way to approach leaving him at home while we are gone all day? I have seen a lot about crating them, but then I have seen where it is not recommened for young puppies. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated......thanks!!

we have to crate him otherwise he will rip up the house but even we didnt crate him one time, he still barked. i have tried everything people said on here. includings toys, kongs, food, water, music, tv, radio everything! but he still barks. and he barks very loud as well. its annoying the neighbours. i'm not buying a bark collar or muzzle, they are cruel and too expensive
thanks if anyone can help me
he usually barks for 5 minutes very loudly and then stops. sometimes he'll eat his food first and then start barking
i take him for walks everyday. i just came back from an hour long walk at the park and i needed to go shopping. i thought he would be too tired too bark so i was pretty sure. sure enough, i come home tom find him barking again
how do i stop it?
exercise doesnt even work!

I heard about the dogs that supposedly mauled that guy at Ving Rhames' house. Supposedly they were Fila Brasileiro Mastiffs. Are they known for aggression?

We ran out of her pain medicine, and can't get any till tomorrow. She has a strained tendon in her back leg. She's not whining, but she's acting a little stiff and sore.

I have a small beagle, and when she went to the bathroom today there were white magot looking things in her poop. Is there a medicine you can get at petsmart or walmart to cure this?

While doing research on my next dog. (I had to take the last one to the pound since it refused to be housebroken.) I saw that people are now breeding Giant Chihuahuas, and I decided that I want one. From what I have heard, they are about the size of a miniature German Shepherd, but they don't shed as much. Does anyone know where I can find one?

I took my dog to pet smart today. She is perfectly calm if the store is empty, she walks next to my leg and such. But the minute she sees another person in the store she tries to run and hide. If people come too close she kinda growls or backs away and tries to hide behind me. Some little kid kept trying to pet her and i thought they were gonna get bit even though I told her not to pet my dog. She tries to pull me out of the store and doesn't respond to my corrections from the choke chain. How do I make my dog more people friendly and not be scared crapless?

Ps. Don't reccamend treats because she won't take any reward from strangers what so ever. Not even from me when she is scared.

Xylitol affects the liver in dogs and can cause various problems and is often fatal. Spread the word! This is NOT regulated by the FDA or any other group. At the least they should warn consumers! Feed back?

She is a dog that belongs to a family member with a mental disability and we are taking care of her for the next year while he is in a rehab location. Not sure what has made her do this but even when you are just talking nicely to her she lays her ears back, squints her eyes, squats down and pees as she is running away. I have tried everything possible to gain her trust even so far as babying her way more than I do my own dog but nothing seems to help. Any suggestions? BTW, it is really starting to get annoying as my carpet is getting absolutely ruined!!

Im fostering a dog who I found out had kennel cough. I got the pills to give her when I feed her, so Im treating it.

I have another dog too, and I dont want him to get sick, but I dont want to isolate him from me (he'll get sad.) He's pretty healthy anyways and seems immune to everything, so is there a possibility he might not get it?

I leave the door in my living room open to the outside, so could that help the bacteria sort of float outside instead of staying inside?

And anyways they really arent around each other, they keep to themselves, so does that help too?

We have two 6 lb miniature Yorkies. I take Paxil (20mg a day). About 5 days ago I'd dropped one and took the entire house apart trying to find it. Vacuumed, swept, dusted - over and over again. Came up short. About 5 minutes ago, I looked down on the rug near my feet and the pill was there, whole but with tiny teeth marks on it.

My question is: Is there any chance that she (I know which one must have done this....she's SO sneaky) could have harmed herself by taking in any of that pill? I am worried!

Thank you so much.

Hi everyone, I need to ask you this because my vet’s office is closed (I will call in the morning as well)

I have an Australian Shepherd mix he's about 80 pounds (3 1/2 yrs. old), I think he may have allergies. We just put frontline flea on him last week and the fleas are gone.

But it seems like this time every year he starts getting these red blotchy like spots on him, I know most of this is from the remaining flea bits, he is constantly scratchy really bad tonight, and he’s whining when he does this. I know he itches.

I have read some past questions about Benadryl for dogs, but nothing really saying what type of benadryl, (liquid, pill childrens etc)I know not to use the ones with Tylenol and stuff in it since it is toxic.

The only thin I have available at hand is the equate brand (walmart) pill form allergy med. Containing 25 mg of diphenhydramine hydrochloride
Can I give him one of those until I can contact y vet tomorrow?

i have found little doggies, all rescues and all amazing.
now i have a problem when it comes to feeding times as some eat faster, some slower and some have diffrent food needs. some have suppliments some still need to take their meds.
now the problem is that they all kinda swap around their food bowl, walk around to the other dog's food bowl, have a nibble there and walk over to another one and eat from another bowl. now i can't possibly seperate all of them or do i have to? also it's not fair to feed one while the others wait and then feed another one or is it?
thanks!

My 1 yr old poodle looooooves tomatos. I had 6 sitting in a window sill waiting to ripen a little more and when i got home she had eaten 4 of them. About 3 days ago she got into the garden and 3 tomatos off the vine. There isnt any pesticides or anything like that on the tomatos so im not worried about that. Does anyone know if it is okay for her to eat that many tomatos? The vet said she would be okay, and she doesnt seem to be sick...but i dont know..it just seems like too many tomatos!

Thanx
Owner of a tomato lovin poodle.

This story should help the pitt people feel a little better --

A man working as a caretaker at a residence owned by actor Ving Rhames was found dead on the property Friday morning after being mauled by two dogs, authorities said.

He "appears to have suffered a number of injuries as a result of the dog mauling," Lombardo said.

"There were dogs loose on the property. Those dogs have been captured by animal regulation (officers)," he said. "We have four dogs that have been taken into custody for quarantine pending further investigation ..."

Police said investigators quarantined a pair of 200-pound mastiffs, along with two other dogs.

"Both those dogs are mastiffs; they're rather large," Lombardo said. "Normally we understand they are pretty friendly dogs. But, you know, there are occasions where dogs will turn on their owners or their caretakers, and this looks like a tragic accident."

*My Q is... were the dogs doing their job or are they killer beasts?*

Someone is offering me a blind dog because, they already have three dogs and need to find him a home. This puppy was born blind. Could there be other medical problems I would need to worry about? Is taking care of a blind dog a lot more difficult than a dog with sight. The dog is really cute and I would like to care for him. Any advice. ?
