My husband and I got a 8-week-old white German shepherd puppy today. I haven't decided a name for her yet... I'm thinking of Lily or Summer, but we'll see. Have any suggestions? :) I'd love to hear them.
Anyway, I read up on white German shepherds for forever, and we decided that they would make a great dog for my husband and I. Our anniversary is tomorrow, so we decided it would finally be a good time to get one, especially since we just moved into a new house with plenty of extra space. I read about what to look for when choosing a white german shepherd puppy, but now I'm afraid I may have not made the best decision once I saw all those beautiful eyes! The little girl appealed to us as she was cute and the runt of the litter. All of her brothers and sisters were more hyper than her, except for maybe the one that was asleep in the corner. They all looked healthy and alert, and she and her sister were toppling over eachother trying to get milk from their mother, who was beautiful by the way. We met both the parents and were provided with all the AKC papers and bloodline information and all that, but really I am just looking for a great dog. Anyway, the puppy has been so quiet and calm, from the 35 minute car ride home until now, 4 hours later. She makes little grunting sounds when I pick her up, and I'm hoping that this is normal and not a sign of pain. She's sleeping now, and I'm hoping that maybe she's just tired from the car ride and new environment. We have two cats, one is 1 year, the other 8 months, and when they saw the dog they bowed up like halloween cats even though she was just sitting there completely still. The puppy just sat there though, looking at them and wagging her tail slowly. She didn't even flench when one hissed at her. She hasn't walked around the house much, and when I took her outside to potty she whined alittle. I guess she just misses her family. She hasn't eated any of the dry food we received from the breeder, and she didn't drink any water either even though she was drooling of thirst in the car. She lets my husband and I pet her, but she seems kind of scared. She just sits in the corner of the room until she literally falls asleep. She doesn't come when you call her and usually doesn't even becoem excited. Do you think this puppy will be playful and smart once she gets used to things? Would one of the more hyper dogs been a better pet? Please help... I need reassurance, particularly from a white german shepherd owner. I have all the patience and time right now to teach her things, so if there's anything I can do to help feel comfortable and act like a puppy, please let me know.

I would really like to purchase a Yorkie. I live in the Tampa Bay area. Does anyone know of any reputable breeders in this area? And now much does a Yorkie usually cost? I'd just like to get an idea of how much money I will need.

Thanks!

My springer has a strong personality. When I took her to my dog trainers house she just walked right in she showed no fear that she was intruding on another dog's territory. She has played nicely with all dogs I have socialized her with she still has some behaviors that bother me. One being wen she was playing with an older bigger dog, the older dog made it knowen that she did not want my springer to play with her ball. My springer was totally pissed off, but she knew there was nothing she could do about it. She tried to go back for the ball twice, but the otherdog being the consistent creature she is would not let her have it. Each time my springer would run in circles then go bark at the horses trying to take her fustration out on them. I have noticed my westie holding her ears back whenever she is around, too. They got into a fight over food days ago. I keep them seperate while eating now. She obeys me but tries to dominate everyone else. She wont stop unless I make her or the

I adopted a 1 year old dog two weeks ago and he is afraid of everyone. I am very close to my large family and visit them often. I planned on taking dog with me, but he growls and barks fiercely everytime someone tries to pet him. He is fine roaming among them freely as long as they don't talk to or look at him. I want to be able to take him with me, but they are afraid of him now, and I'm scared he'll bite someone. He was fine with me the day I met him, why is afraid of them? I tried getting him used to just my mom alone, I tried treats, I tried holding him when someone came close. Even the vet was afraid of him and hardly examed him. We put a muzzle on him that he almost tore through. Obedience school sounds expensive, what can I do? I don't want to give him back, please help!

My dog is a little over two years old.
He is a pretty small dog.
He is 3/4 Maltese, and 1/4 Poodle.
My dog likes to bark at strangers (namely visitors that come in my house).
My dog immediately barks whenever he heres my garrage door open and when my doorbell rings.
I have to admit, his barking sometimes does give me a headache.
My dog is very possessive; although he is getting better.
For example, my little brother is playing with his action figure, and then he suddenly drops it on accident.
My dog will immediately run to the toy, grab it, and either chew or just keep it.
To get back the toy, we call my dog to "eat", meaning we will feed him a piece of bologna to get him away from the toy.
Sometimes i feel my dog is so smart that he grabs whatever he can so that we can call him to "eat."
While he is in possession of the toy, if we try to get close to him he will growl. Sometimes he will even attack us.
I have been bitten by him in the past (about five times).
Help?

I have two small dogs- (Daisy is a female chihuahua fox terrier & Nacho is a male papillon fox terrier) and so far I have been feeding them Purina Puppy Chow. They are almost 10 months old and getting ready to switch to regular dog food but with the rising concerns on pet food, I'm considering switching them to homemade food. I've read a lot about it and what foods are toxic to dogs and that their diets should be a balance of protein, starches, and veggies. I was wondering what everyone thinks about making food at home. I've seen lots of recipes for chicken, beef, turkey, tuna, salmon, etc with some sort of grain, generally oats or rice, and some veggies of mixed veggies or potatoes. I didn't get too much info on vitamins and supplements that this sort of a diet would not provide as the bagged dry dog food does and was wondering if anyone knows about that? I tried to ask my vet but he just blew me off and said dogs should eat dog food and "people food" won't give them nutrients.

I have a 4 1/2 month old miniature dachshund puppy who is having trouble getting potty trained quickly. If I take him outside he goes but he will also go inside. I've tried the bell thing where they ring it to get your attention when they have to go but he just ends up chewing on the string. Also, what is the best way to stop biting? He doesn't like take your arm off but it's just annoying when he nips at your fingers when you try to pet him. Please help, I want a good dog!

I know this is a really weird question but I have so far found two really disgusting things in my house.

First I found a smear on my couch pillow (it's an off-white pillow) that was brown, and smelled really disgusting.

Then yesterday I was sitting in my leather computer chair with the dog on my lap and he started licking something in my lap. I looked down and there was a small puddle of this disgusting brown liquid-gel type stuff with the same really horrible smell.

So what I want to know is - what color is a dog's ejaculate? I can't think of anything else this could be. I did check his belly area and his rear to see if there was any residue and there wasn't at all and he hadn't throw up or anything so I have no idea what this stuff is. It has a really foul smell to it.

He's just at the age where he has started humping things (he was sleeping at the time though...) so I'm wondering if that's what it could be.

Sorry, I know this is really gross.

My small (male)dog has been urinating a dark brown urine since this afternoon. I have taken him to the vet, who has performed some tests and is dumb-founded. Tane (the dog) does not show any other symptoms that usually come with brown urine (ie collapsing, yellow eyes, lethargy, vomiting etc..). In fact he is quite normal. There is no blood evident in the urine. He is a very energetic dog and nothing has changed there... The vet has said she believes it may be a liver infection, but does not show any other usual signs of this. She has said if anything changes, to call her straight away. Otherwise, she has no idea.
Has anyone any experience with this?
Cheers.

The reason I think its a hairball is because I have another dog thats American Eskimo that sheds a lot. They play constantly and I have on many a occasion taken hair out of my dogs mouth while they were playing.I am on disability and have limited income, theres no one that has more love for their pets or treat their pets as well as I do mine . If I had the hundreds of dollars to do the tests I would but since I dont and I have good reason to believe its a hairball why not at least try to treat that first to see especially since its my only option since I cant afford the tests.
