Get some permethrin for the dog. Like cheap flea medicine like Spot On by Zodiac that you can get at most stores, it is marketed for fleas, but does not work well as a flea repellant in dogs. Buy the dose for the size of your dog. Put 1/2 the tube on one ear and the other 1/2 on the other ear. It works for up to a month. The other stuff like SWAT, ect... needs to be applied several times a week. Clean the ear tips off real well, you can use a little bit of vaseline on your fingers and get the dried blood off the ear tips as well. We have been using the permethrin on the ears of our German Shepherds for years now for this. A lot of other kennels do this as well.

They make fly repellent in an ointment you can apply a couple of times a day to the ear tips and edges--some vets carry it or you can get it at feed stores or tractor supply stores. No OFF, it's toxic. Advantix may help repel somewhat, though it's not labeled for flys.

There is a product called "Fly's off" especially made for dogs, cows, and horses. You can put directly on the tips of your dogs ears. It's like a Vaseline type ointment only its white. It repells the flies and will help heal the open wounds the flies have caused. It's very effective I've even used it on myself and my dogs. I've put it on my own arms and legs and the flies won't land on the treated area.

Avon skin so soft products work well and are safe. Also there is a spray for horses that works quite well, you may need to dilute this though so read the bottle carefully. If you are worried about irritation, spray your hands first and then rub on the dog.

A half a clove of garlic everyday. My dogs ears were getting bitten so badly they started to bleed, and I give them garlic everyday and they haven't had a problem since.

DO NOT USE HUMAN REPELLANT ON DOGS!! We had to bathe my dog several times and take her to the vet after using it on her. Here is a link to fly/mosquito relellants made for dogs.

Let the dog in the house. If he is in the house already, shut the screen door.

Flea powder, rubbed on his ears, should do the trick; if not, the vet MUST know what to do.
