I have a 4 1/2 month old miniature dachshund puppy who is having trouble getting potty trained quickly. If I take him outside he goes but he will also go inside. I've tried the bell thing where they ring it to get your attention when they have to go but he just ends up chewing on the string. Also, what is the best way to stop biting? He doesn't like take your arm off but it's just annoying when he nips at your fingers when you try to pet him. Please help, I want a good dog!

Crate training for dachsies:

Dachshunds are one of the hardest breeds to potty train, males more so than females; I think the only breed harder to train is the Chinese Crested.
Put the bell on a chain not a string or ribbon.
For biting he heeds to be taught bite inhibition:

I recommend the book "Dachshunds for Dummies" - many many good breed-specific pointers in there!

Get Dr. Ian Dunbars "After You Get Your Puppy" book. It is a great little paperback that will help you have the best trained puppy ever! Amazon.com has it. You simply can't let a puppy that is not 100% housebroken out of your sight or else it is your fault if it has an accident. Crate training is best.

A rule is take them out after they eat and If you are home take out different times of the day and before bedtime. If you`re not home confine your dog in a laundry area put paper down praise for using the paper. take him outside after you get home give him time to sniff around praise if he does something.Don`t lick or hit old scold when has and accident be patience don`t rub his nose in it either he`l learn it takes time for little puppys like babies to learn to control there bladder etc but he will .

You need to buy a litter box and then try train the dog to go potty . It's easyer to do it that way beacuse then it's use to going even if he is stubern gust take a treat hold it in your hand and tell him go potty then he will beacuse you have the treat in your hand and he really want's it .
