3 dogs, one dog plays rough with smaller dog, but not meanly. small dog has really short hair and is getting torn up by big dog behind the ear area. small dog does not care, doesn't seem to hurt but looks horrible (sometimes draws blood). muzzled the big dog and it's not working. Gets out of muzzle, and can't keep her muzzled forever. what next? anyone tried bitter apple in this situation?

My pug was attacked by my step sisters dog. He's a boxer, they lived together perfectly for years but one day the boxer snapped on my pug. Scout E lost his vision in the attack but he is better than ever and always in high spirits.

FOREVER, I've been debating whether I should teach him 'stay' or 'wait'. He' knows wait. Wait is for like, to wait for something until I give him the command 'okay'. Wait for a treat, toy, to go out the door, etc. I've also used 'wait' for him to stay there and wait for me to release him with the command 'okay'. So, when I actually start teaching him to stay, on an official level, real training sessions, like to stay and wait for me to release him, should I use 'stay', or use 'wait' for this also? Should they be broken up into 2 separate commands, or should wait be to wait for something /and/ to stay there and not move? I hope I didn't confuse ya'll too much. xP

he is an 8 year old rotty. I want to enhance the quality of his life as long as i can. All the research I have done says 1-2 months after diagnosis they surcome to the pain and have to be put down. That just isn't good enough. I have to be able to do something. If anyone has been through this or has facts please let me know. Your input is greatly appreciated.

We just got him last night. He is 10 weeks old and VERY sweet. I noticed when we got him that he had dandruff and he still has a lot. Even after a bath today with some doggie shampoo that says "extra dry skin." Does anyone have any suggestions? Also, does anyone know if this is common in the breed?

Hello All,

I have a 4 year old pug that has just recently developed flea allergy dermatitis. I treat her monthly with frontline plus but the stuff seems to lose effectiveness by about 15 days. She then will get one or two fleas which manage to bite her. These bites then become huge spots allover her stomach and coat. This last time I counted 50 bite marks. She becomes miserable and itchy and I have to spend every second with her distracting her so that she does not scratch her skin open.

I've read a lot about the topic online and spoke to my new vet (we just moved). The vet has not been all that helpful. Online encourages you to treat you entire home, yard, etc. Unfortunately, we live in an apartment building (12 floor highrise). It is impossible to treat the yard--we are not allowed and impossible to treat our living area--there are so many cracks in the walls/foundation I doubt it would do much good. Even better, we live in Hawaii where housing is scarce and fleas live year round.

I found an older shih tzu in my neighborhood tonight. I went to my neighbors who were still up but no one was missing a dog. I will put out a sign tomorrow. I already have a dog...so keeping him is not an option.

How long should i wait before i turn him in? Is it better to go to a rescue org? I don't want him put down!!!

Many websites i have seen have stats for each breed of dog, be it 1-5 stars or paws. Many dogs had 4-5 ratings for exercise needed. I have a couple of different friends who own some of those spacific breeds to which these sites claim need an extreme amount of exercise, yet the dog is extremely happy with just a normal amount of one walk a day and/or backard play/obediance training. Im curious if it really is nessisarry to walk your dog 3 times a day as well as play and training time, or if its all just a matter of peference, so long as the dog is happy.

On a TV show a couple of days ago, a pet nutrition expert was interviewed. She mentioned that among the other food items which dogs should not eat were grapes and raisins. Why? Is it the sugar? I can't think of any other reason grapes would be bad, and my dachshund loves them (let's face it; he loves anything I give him, from lettuce to fruit; I let him have a little fruit or tomato, etc. as a treat, since they're low in fat).

I am a dog owner and my knee jerk reaction is: Of course they do. But do they really or is it mostly instincually driven.

My dog is very attached to me and so am I to her. If I dropped dead, would my dog feel sadness and sorrow like a human? What emtional level in human terms does a dog really have, or are they capable of? I've always been curious of this.

I'm not talking about the simple little unique "dog things" that all dogs do, but how and what they really feel about us?

So do you think they really actually have love for us humans, or is simply a instinct driven nature that the dog has?
