That is a classic sign of one sort of mild epileptic seizure. Some dogs appear to be barking at flies (although it could be they actually see something like dust); some stare at the ground and bark. Unless it happens a lot, there's no need to worry. Your vet can tell you what a lot is but as I recall from Mertyl's seizures, more then once a month is too much.

Ghosts do not exist.... dogs have uber good hearing! He couldv'e heard sumthing you didn't or was having bad dream. Animals predict the weather and such not because of supernatural powers but because of instincts from ancestors, and joints and muscles can feel the different pressures in air and such.

Around here, a really high pitched whistle or hunting call from a distance can hurt their ears and send em crazy even though there's no way you can hear it.

ok this is so0o0o0o0o0o0 true. ok all six of my dogs and i were cuddling up to the fire the suddenly, the fire went out. my three biggest dogs went to check it out but nothing was there. i was starting to get scared because a lot of things started to break down and things were in places i didn't put them. so i had a squat team in my house to check it out. they led me into a room i swore i wouldn't go into any more cause it gave me the chills everytime i went passed it. my doggs all had their tail between their legs. the officer opened the door and this stack of bodies were in the door way. i went a lil closer and it was a lot of animals. squrriels, dogs, cats, birds, and i thought i saw one or two fish. the room had a wall that was covered in blood. that is so0o0o0o0o00o0o0o0o0o0 true.

Noises, floating pieces of dust, an itch, a tickle. All of these thing can make dogs go bazurk. Don't worry about it. Plus some dogs think they see ghosts.

Ghosts! No really, was he sleeping and woke up suddenly and started barking? He may have been having a dream or thought he heard something and it startled him and he just went ballistic.

i'm going with the "ghost" therory too. strange things happen at my house too and my dogs are either barking or growling for no reason. my beagle always looks over my shoulder when i hold her and i know nothing is there but she gets really stiff when doing this like she doesn't like what she sees.
