My friend just brought back a 8 weeks old heavenese puppy. I am wondering if I can take my 5 years old westie to visit and play with him. Is there anything I should be aware of?

You should be aware that you shouldn't take a 5 week old puppy anywhere. He is too young to haul around. At 5 weeks he really should still be with his mother. And wait until your pup is old enough to have his shots before mixing him with any other puppy.

Of course they can play. It will help to further socialize the puppy. We just brought home a 16 week old Sheltie puppy and we already had a 4 year old mixed breed. At first the older dog was unsure what was going on, but we introduced them slowly and now they are the best of friends.

Remember, you are taking the puppy into the Westie's home, so you may have some territorial problems at first. But the puppy will be wanting to play, play, play and the Westie should come around. Just watch for the Westie to get over agressive.

It it fairly safe to take your dog to visit your friends little puppy. Just make sure that your dog is up to date on ALL of his shots and is healthy. Make sure your older dog doesn't play too rough with a small puppy. Also, if your friend just got the puppy (within 7 days), wait a few days for the puppy to settle in to his new home. The trip to his new home and meeting his new family will be very overwhelming and he will probably just want to sleep and explore.

8 weeks is still just a lil guy! that's like a toddler and a 10 yro playing! lol. It is very vital to get as much interaction w other dogs thou now, for him, but a 5 year old is too big for it now but will make a great playmate soon. let them meet and try to play if he dominates him wait a while. taking your guy's dogs to a dog park will help too.

the size is perfect for play. do watch them though bc a young dog can have a lot more energy and have more of a "go go go" type play than an older dog. even the more energenic ones can get sick of a little one hoping all around them. just watch them, make sure your dog doesnt get too irritated...esp. if he/she has never really socialized with other dogs. sometimes a dogs reaction to something they arent used to can be agression even if they are a lamb.
