I have a 2.5 year old yellow lab. She's very smart and has always gotten along with people and other dogs until my recent breakup with her mother. We share the dog and she goes back and forth each week. She loves us both and plays well with her "friends" but if another dog comes near her she's aggressive and this behavior is very new. She seems to do this more with me than my ex. She does go to doggy daycare and she is fine at school. no fighting or biting. She shows fear agression and also shows alpha dominance while on walks with me and when we visit our dog run at my complex. She is also ball obsessed. We did take her to a "behaviourist" but that didn't work out at all. The suggestions were just too dangerous to try. Any ideas on how to help my dog? I want her to be the happy dog she used to be.

I have wanted a Boxer for the longest but i am afraid of getting just any one because of my daughter. I know they are really loving pets but you get inbreed and misbreed dogs they are more likely to turn.

Hi guys, it sounded like my dog was hyperventilating last night around 4:00 am. Hes a maltese/terrier mix and about 1 years old. He stopped on his own, but I'm concerned; anyone know why this would happen or what would cause it?

hi all, I have a male staffy he is 14 months old and very playful but a little bit boystrous and very nosey, Im due to give birth in a week and a half and am a bit concerned as the time nears how he will behave when i bring the baby home and all the time really, im worried he will get excited and jump up when im holding the baby or barge past me or jump up at his moses basket etc i dont think he will deliberatly harm the baby but he might accidentally. short of locking him in another room everytime i go to the loo/have a bath etc i dont know what i can do to keep them apart.
Has anyone had this type of dog and then had a baby and what was the outcome?

AS GOOD AS IT GETS with Jack Nicholson? If so, are they good dogs, do they shed a lot, are they easily trained? I'm looking to get another dog and I think that one was soo cute. I already have a yorkie. What about their temper?

A man sternly told us this at puppy "socialization" class last night.

Our pup was playing with a poodle and was getting the upper hand. The poodle wasn't crying in pain, just playing along and losing often. Our dog, like many, will grab the ears, mouth, scruff... And be happy to have this done to him if the other dog has the skill to take him down - The owners of the poodle were freaking out. The Mom was almost in tears, their kids were shrieking "Dad, the brown dog is BITING ours!" And the Dad would be sticking his legs between our dog and theirs, pulling him off.

Their Poodle was always coming back for more and never cowering away. It was the owners who had the problem with it. It all came to a head when he grabbed our dog and tried to hand him to us, we refused and let our dog play more.

They just picked up their dog and "protected" him for the rest of play time. We pointed out they were playing and nothing was wrong - the dogs need to learn!

How would you have handled this?

If a dog bites someone, is he labeled forever as a 'bite dog'? The bite was a bit provoked, he was being layed on and he had just been seperated from his best dog friend. (We r having to re home our pets due to a foreclosure on our home) We had him for 5 years and he has always been the sweetest dog. I think he was very stressed about the seperation and probably didn't like being layed on by a teenager. I am having trouble finding a home for him since he's a bigger, older dog. So my question is would any shelter take him as my last resort? NOT THE POUND! I'm talking a no-kill shelter. I plan on keeping him until the day we move, but that's only a couple a weeks from now. Please does anyone know where I can take him if I must take him to a shelter?

My dog is a chihuahua and he sheds ALOT. He is not long haired. I know that I need to get a brush to help remove the dead hair. I tried using a rubber type brush, and it helped, but not even a minute after brushing him, he started shedding even more. I tried using another brush that I found at walmart(it was made for removing the dead hair), and it has metal bristtles, but they were sharp, and after one try at brushing him it didn't do it any more because they were hurting his skin. So, I guess my question is, what kind of brush should I purchase, and where can I get it?

How long until your puppy actually would start telling you that he needed to go outside - by sitting the door, ringing bells, barking = whatever.

We've had her for over a year and she's never done this before. We keep her at night in a crate in the kitchen and she's been just sitting there barking and growling at nothing. There's a fan on in the room, so it's not like she's hearing a strange noise. We do what the experts recommend and ignore her, but it doesn't stop until 1:30am or so. Help, what should we do now??? She seems fine otherwise. Her behavior, appetite etc. are normal. She just won't shut up.

When you take your puppy to a salon. I heard you can ask them to pop a sweat gland that they have inside there butt so they dont stink. Is that true?

My GF has 2 dogs.. and about 3 weeks ago I moved in with her. Well, her dogs like to sleep in the bedroom with us and she has two cushions for them to sleep on, on the floor(at the foot of the bed). But.. When we are "doing stuff" in the bedroom, she thinks it's ok to let them stay in the room. "They feel like they are being punished if I lock them out of the room." And says it like it's abusive or something. But my thing is.. Isn't it wrong to be having sex in front of them ? And no kidding, sometimes they out and out stare because of the noises & the bed moving. Which makes sense to me cause they're curious. For me this is uncomfortable. For her, she just ignores them. What do you think ?

They always seem to be discovering bodies.

I'd be wary of them...
