When you take your puppy to a salon. I heard you can ask them to pop a sweat gland that they have inside there butt so they dont stink. Is that true?

NO NO NO please dont let them do it and specifically tell them NOT to do it!!!

its the anal gland and NO dont have it done regularly....ask them NOT to do it unless you notice your pup scooting on the ground.. if you start now you might have to get it done regularly... they naturally release the anal glands when they go to the bathroom....its not something you have to do to all dogs!!! they do it naturally and its not neccesary... groomers shold not do it unless asked... they do it though and I would not let them do it.....

here is a few links for you so you can understand what it is:

Dogs have anal glands that will release slightly as they have a bowel movement. At times they can become blocked or infected. It is good to have it checked once in awhile to avoid future problems. The salon does this for you before bathing. To do this you must put your thumb on one side of the anus and you middle on the other side of and push in (not in the bum on the outer side)squeeze your finger and thumb slightly together and pull back outward. This is how you empty the anal glands. Make sure your in a tub because it is normal for them to squirt and it does smell very fishy. Do not do this to much as the rectum will become iritated.I would suggest once every 4-6 months. Puppies don't normaly need this done. Even if he/she is scooting it could be worms or a bowel irritation. A dog if has just been clipped by the rectum may scoot due to clipper burn.

Not exactly.

Canines have anal glands that can become impacted. Most obvious sign of this is the "dog scoot" where they scoot their butt across the rug trying to alleviate the itch.

If that happens, you need to "pop" the anal gland. Be sure to lay down a towel as it's a MESS. And don't get that stuff on your clothes! And hold your breath because it stinks.

If you don't know what you are doing (you have to be fast), have your Vet do it the first time and show you how.

no it's not true . unless the dog has an infection in the anal gland and it starts to stink . then you would have to take it to the vet and they will milk the gland not 'pop" (ouch)
the glands are what the dogs use for communication when they poop it leaves their own personal message like their health and sex .and it even tells other dogs when it's in heat. and its kinda like a finger print every dog has their own sent

Oh my it's called expressing the anal glands. It is best done by your vet if the person doing it is not experienced enough then they can do more harm than good.
Talk this over with your vet and then do what he or she says.

Oh and by the way dogs do have sweat glands not many but they do have them in their feet. Thats why their feets smell popcorn or cheeto's.

No.Older dogs sometimes get this problem & then the vet drains the anal sack & thats what has the odor but I've never heard of that in a puppy. But,,I can tell you that all puppies need to be dewormed. The liquid type is easiest dispensed according to body weight at the right age.Follow directions & each pup gets the meds seperately.

Mostly smaller breed dog will need their Anal glands expressed, but that is definatly something you should leave to a vet. Unless you really know what you are doing do not attempt on your own...Plus it isn't something you would really like to do!!! Some larger breed dogs have to have it done to, but they normaly release theirs when they have a bowel movement.

It's not that they stink it actually causes them problems when they take a dump. It normally doesn't bother them until they are grown up some. You will know that it needs done by your dogs actions ..... not really wanting to do anything and there area around the but will be tender.

....would you like someone to take you to the ob/gyn and ask them to pop a bubble in your booty to keep you from stinking..? I don't think you should do this.. maybe just keep your dog clean. What if something goes wrong? infact.. I've never ever heard of someone poppinga anal gland in a dog.. pretty scary if you tell me.. Think this through and hopefully make the right decision.. A dog is a animal.. they are suppose to stink.. its nature..
