I have a 3 year old female lurcher-x who we recently rescued from the dogs home after our other dog passed away. Because of her frame, she can run incredibly fast and, unlike my other dog, i cannot always get her back when she finds another dog to play with on our walks. I have tried all the usual techniques but i am looking for a more effective, original way off getting her back. Because of her previous homes, she seems to answer better to angry tones but i know this isn't the correct way of training her.

I personally they think are so cute!

Does anybody own one? What are the good and bad things about them? What about for a first time dog owner? (please don't try to scare me off of them...I was previously interested in getting a pit bull, you can't scare me!)

They are easy to manipulate right? Only do what they are told, right?

What do you think?

I would love to get a boxer dog, but I'm also planning on having a baby with my wife. Her concern is that the dog will get jealous and my harm the baby. Can anybody reassure my wife please?!

My family (my husband,3year old daughter and I) took in an abused dog. We've had her for about 8 months now.Everything has been good except for when things get loud around the house,no matter what the noise is,She shakes uncontroablly and hides in the bathub(for hours).I've asked the vet and he told me that there's probably nothing I can do that will help.I feel bad that she's so scared. And we don't want to give her up.I was just wondering if anybody's been in this situation or has any suggestions.Thanks.

I have a 6 month old westie and she's great in every way but one, she's house trained, crate trained, Sits, doesn't snatch. Plays nicely with the cat. She's not agressive but she barks and growls at strangers in the street. She socialises with my friends labradors and comes regularly into contact with other dogs. I try to ignore the behaviour so as not to reinforce but I don't want to seen to be not be doing anything to prevent it.
People are reluctant to approach a noisy/growly dog or let their dogs near. Sugestions welcome.

i know certain breeds have certain traits, for example hound dogs like to sniff and track stuff, golden retrieves like to swin, border collie catch frisbees, ect. i'm curious how would i get my pitbulls to catch a frisbee and go for a swim whenever they like??? or is this something that could never be accomplished?

I just read a question "Dwarf puppy vs. Runt puppy" and one of the answerers was saying that runts are more prone to illness...Is this true?

I am considering on adopting an 8 year old neutered male Pomeranian from our local shelter. I already have two, 5 year old spayed female Poms. Is there a downside that I may not be aware of? I'm in love with him already!

My aunt bought our puppy a crocodile embossed leather dog collar with Swarovski diamond cross-cut stones. Problem is, she tries to take it off when she sits on the Davenport. Should we have used the one with soft calf leather and rhinestone bones and buckle instead?

My puppy is 10 weeks old. She knows how to sit, shake, come, speak, go potty, and crate. Now I have seen some some really cool tricks, like making a dog 'whisper', its when they speak except really quiet. All of my tricks were easy to train because they are natural... what's the coolest dog trick you've seen or trained...and how did you do it???? I'm still wondering how get her to roll over and play dead....

My chiuahuah puppy is 18 weeks old, and so cute. I'm wondering how long I should expect her to keep growing. She was the runt of the litter and ways about 3 lbs now. Also any guesses on how big she will get?

She is laying around and every once in a while she will strain, or have a contraction, how long should this go on, before getting worried?

We feed him a dog food called chicken soup for a dog lovers soul.
We feed him about 1/2 cup to 1 cup each time.
He is a 10 month old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
We put the food down at around 11pm then at 11 am and we leave it down for half an hour if he doesn't eat we pick the food back up. We just started doing this almost a week ago in an attempt to get him to eat when the food is out instead of waiting 3 hours and throwing the feeding cycle off.
I can't think of anything else that might help. Any answer will be welcomed.

My poor dog that I've had since I was 19 (Im currently 31) has failing kidneys. The Vet said that if she were a person she would be on dialasis. Anyhow, she is currently getting liquid treatment under her skin every day and her she is still eating, but not nearly what she used to. I have been giving her people food as she has been staying away from regular canned dog food (which she used to love). Now I give her some canned salmon, rice, carrots, sometimes a scrambelled egg or two. But what she REALLY LOVES is canned vienna sausages and hot dogs. I have been giving her alot of these just so she will take in more calories. I would put her down, alothough it breaks my heart except she is still pretty playful and happy...although not as much as she use to be. My question is what do you think about giving her hot dogs and such as primary meals?
