I just got a chocolate lab.W/o papers though. She is a year old and her fur is more of a warmer brown than a dark brown.Does this mean she is mixed?

I am not so much worried about having the pride of a purebred as I am about knowing what breeds are in her. They effect all sorts of things like temperament and hereditary medical conditions.Knowing a dogs breed is very important.

She could be a Chesapeake Bay Retriever. Especially if she came without papers, then you or the person you go them from can't be truthfully sure. Many people get Chocolate Labs mixed up with this breed. To me they just look like a fluffier lab. They are also brown and have three basic colors are generally seen in the breed: brown, which includes all shades from a light cocoa (a silvered brown) to a deep dark brown; sedge, which varies from a reddish yellow through a bright red to chestnut shades; and deadgrass in all its shades, varying from a faded tan to a dull straw color.
Seriously if you want to see more pics of the breed, then type in Chesapeake Bay Retrievers in your search engine box and check out the pics it comes up with. I am pretty sure that this is what breed you may have. Hope I was able to help! :)

No, there can be quite a variation in chocolate Labs.
Switch to "Blackwood" dog food and the dogs coat will become much darker. Switch to "Eukanuba" and the coat will become lighter.
Keep the dog out on the sun and the coat will become darker. Keep the dog in the sun and the coat will become lighter.

I don't think that's she's mixed because of the color of her fur. There can be many slight variations in colors, some being more brown to more chocolate.

The color varies. I don't think every Chocolate Lab is going to be the same exact color. I think it depends of the food and sunlight as well.

She could be mixed. But I think it is just how it is supposed to be, I think they do vary, maybe she is mixed, but just one parent was a gold lab, and one was a chocolate.
does it matter if you love her?
