I have been trying to basic train my 13 week old pug puppy. He does great when I have a treat to give him, but when I try to get him to sit, lay down, heel, or any other trick without a treat, he wont do it. How do I teach him to do these things without always receiving a reward afterward?

My 8 month German Shepherd is shy and I've gotten some advice from quite a few writers as to how i should deal with that but she does not even bark. All she does is run when someone approeches and makes a hissing puppy sound. Is this normal behavior for a dog at this age? How long do German Shepherds take to grow up? My Rottweiler is the same age and is not fearful at all. I am very concerned..

He REALLY freaks out when you try to do it because one time he got them trimmed at the vet and they split one of them and it became infected. I know how to do it myself but don't want him crying, howling, and especially jerking and biting. What about Benydryl?

Since its the 1st anniversary of my dogs death I want to reflect and pay some respect to him but when it happened I couldn't bare keeping anything of him and either hid it or got rid of it. I don't have a burial or anything. We have since moved from where his home was so I don't even have a place to go to reminisce. Any ideas?

I live in Germany and make my own home made dog food for my bullmastiff. I have always been told to avoid pork products because they are processed different out here. I was wondering though, can my dog eat the pork if it is thoroughly cooked or boiled?

Please look at both images and tell us (my wife&I) who you agree
with?....We would love to adopt both, but maybe later we will.
# 2 would be totally high maintenance and embarrassing.....If I saw a guy with that I would laugh, and think that he was a bit off.
Also my wife is preg and due in 7 months ...wich one would be best.

I have a 2 year old Beagle who I take almost everywhere with me. When she was a puppy she would whine occasionally but for the most part pace in the back seat. She has morphed into the most annoying and loud dog over the last year though. She whines constantly and paces. I've tried ignoring her, I've tried talking to her, I've tried staring her down... nothing works. I started using a harness that clips to a seatbelt but she will get so tangled I worry about her choking. Any advice is helpful, I'm going crazy.

We have had a long standing rivalry with our neighbors...we are always trying to 'one-up' each other...and this is not a friendly rivalry. The police have been involved in some of our 'spats' so we have 'agreed to disagree' and don't speak to each other anymore...

Well, our family dog has disappeard (NO, I DO NOT BLAME THEM)...but since the disappearance, they have purchased a leash and walk up and down the street with this leash as if they were walking an imaginary dog.

What is worse, they stop on the street corners, get down on their knees and pretend to pet their imaginary dog. They even feed it food and water.

I know for a fact they are doing this to get under my skin...and its working. What kind of sick person makes fun of a missing dog...and worse, walks an imaginary dog up and down the street??

Because of our agreement, I cant' verbally confront them, so how do I make them stop???

this is going to sound weird, but i would really like a mutt, a specific mix actually, but dont know where i would go about find a mix like this. currently, we have an australian shepherd (mixed with something), but she's actually pretty small, at 8 months, she's only 25lbs, and she's been this size for about 2 months so we dont think she's going to get much bigger. but she has the energy of an aussy, and we're thinking of getting her a friend in the future (not anytime too soon). but we were thinking that a mini aussy shep/ border collie would be a good size/energy level mix for her. but where would one go about finding a mutt like that? i know the shelters are the best place to get a dog from in general (thats where our pup is from) but its a shot in the dark to actually find a puppy around here (it took 3.5 years of going weekly to find a litter here!). i tired looking on line, but i can only go by breed, not mixes. any help?

just moved into a very small town, only house available at the time. The neighbors need help...but I'm guessing I have to do the work. Here goes...they have 3 dogs, 2 in front yard, chained up and one in side yard next to my house, chained up. First problem is barking all the time. Second problem is they do not clean up after their animals. It is winter and we can still smell it. In the summer time we will have to deal with fleas and ticks. The fence line dividing our property is like chicken wire. Is there any plants that repeal fles and ticks and offers enough aroma to offset the smell. Can't move yet, so that's not an option. We live in missouri

My dog's feet smell like cheese popcorn. It's comforting actually. I know I'm not the only crazy one to experience this in a completely non-pervert way.

I have had one of my dogs for about 4 years now. Yestday I was petting her and another of my dog came over wanting to be petted. The first dog jumped on her and they went at it. In the process I got bit. They have never done this before with each other but the first dog get get attacked by my english bulldog and we had to find a home for the bulldog. The bulldog was white and now she seems to act fear aggressive with my white dogs. What can I do to get her over this?

At first, she would take the puppy out of the crate and feed it by itself in a hidden area (under a bed or desk). Now the mother takes the puppy out, pees on her (or near her), then goes back to the rest of the puppies leaving the puppy alone. This has been happening for a couple weeks and they're a month old. The dog is a first time mother.
