Puppies need a lot of sleep. Some more, some less. I've had a number of breeds over the years and they range from 8 hours daily to 18 hours daily.
Basically, if the puppy only goes for a little while, then falls asleep for a little while, then wakes up and wants to play...that's normal.
If the amount they are sleeping CHANGES DRASTICALLY, then ask your vet. It could signify the puppy is fighting an infection or is otherwise unwell.
Also, if the puppy has recently (within the last few days) gotten vaccinations, they will need a lot more sleep.
Whenever in doubt, harass your vet...I mean, ask your vet! :-)
But, puppies do need their sleep.

I have a 5 month old dachshund. She sleeps for about 5-6 hours at night (but sometimes a bit shorter or longer), and takes several naps during the day. The number of naps depends on what activities she did to get tired out. If she just sits around all day, she’ll hardly nap, and if we played a lot or took her on errands, she’ll nap for hours.

It depends on the dog really my 11 month Bully ***** sleeps forever and always has done she's a lazy lady of leisure but my 5 Month old Bully boy keeps going forever we have to put him in his crate for time out or he'd go all day without a nap. He sleeps for a good 8 hours straight throughout the night without making a peep. Though he is hyper all day he is not a morning person at all. I have to drag his lazy bum out of bed! Bless him.

Adult dogs sleep 15-18 hours a day
Puppies sleep 18-20 hours a day (unless something distracts them)
but all breeds are different all dogs are different, these are just averages

Up to 18 hrs a day but this will get less as he gets older.
All dogs sleep a lot though.

Dogs generally sleep up to 18 hours a day, puppies will sleep even longer, cause they are still babies.
You can wake them up anytime and get them to play with you. If they are bored - they will sleep.
