My 8 month German Shepherd is shy and I've gotten some advice from quite a few writers as to how i should deal with that but she does not even bark. All she does is run when someone approeches and makes a hissing puppy sound. Is this normal behavior for a dog at this age? How long do German Shepherds take to grow up? My Rottweiler is the same age and is not fearful at all. I am very concerned..

Yes It's Absolutely Normal She Is Just 8 Months Old As well Give Her Some time Try To Collaborate Her Self With Some Other Dogs Take her Out To Some of your Friends House Who's Having dogs So she Can Be Friendly With Them And She'll Learn Something As Normal Dogs Do Because It's Depends On Environments well where Everybody Grow ether It's Man Or A Dog And it'll Take At least 2 Yrs Her To Grow Up

Not barking isn't an issue. It's a blessing! :-) Actually, some dogs bark more, some less. I have a dachshund (usually a barking breed) who doesn't bark much...but that was part personality and part training.

The behavior you describe is a BIG issue.

Dogs that are that fearful and react with obvious fear are the most likely to move on to biting and attacking (as an advanced defensive maneuver). This is especially concerning in that there is another dog in the home (the Rott), so socialization isn't helping (usually, having a dog spend a lot of time around other dogs and people can help get them used to it and "socialize" them into being less fearful...but it doesn't always work).

How old was your shepherd when you got her? Any chance she was abused?

I would look to an expert in canine behavior for direct advice...but definitely don't let it go on.

see the type of dogs depend on the breed.all dogs do that puppy sound upto about 1 yr.why? i have seen a 2 yr old alsation doin that sound.thats cuz they tie it up every time. i have a daschund named ceaser.he is 1 yr old.he does the puppy sound only when he gets pee!.but he used to do that all the time when he was a pup.he was also too afraid of strange sound.for diwali he had gone under the cot.so ur dog is normal

sounds like your rottweiller has established itself as the dominant dog, you need to socialise your german shepherd to people and other dogs i order to help her overcome her fears. not barking is a good thing!!!

Hi . I have 1 1/2 yr old lab, she is also very shy and barks when someone approches her. I have not bothered much coz she gets along with my male lab very well.. Maybe its just their nature to be shy.. when i consulted my vet she asked me if she was abused before we adopted her but she was never abused... My vet is'nt worried about her behaviour... U can ask ur vet if its troubling u very much.. But personally i think its ok

sounds like your dog needs to be on your side even when people come over so she can't run away she needs to overcome her fear of people
