I hate the thought of paying hundreds to have our puppy trained when we could do it ourselves. Can someone help recommend a very good book to us,we have a border collie currently 8 weeks old.

I see alot of comments in here blaming irresponsible ownership when their pit bull etc. bites or shows aggression... yes, bad ownership causes alot of these problems but are you aware that Temperament in dogs is a genetic factor? Yes it is about 80% genetic,,, so, if you buy a puppy with ill tempered parents,, you could love it and treat it right and still run the risk of having a ill tempered animal....... BLAME the bad breeders first ,, then the bad owners.

I put a deposit on a yellow labradore puppy when he was 3 weeks old. The mom and father were on site full bloodied lab. I went yesterday to check on the pup and noticed the eyes were blue and the nose was more of a pinkish brown. I thought the eyes were suppose to be brown in yellow labs and the nose black. Is this because the pup is young and this will change (6 weeks old tomorrow) is this normal or should I be concerned. I want a full blood lab not a lab mix

as to why they would go out, get a dog, and then banish to live outside on a chain or in a pen for the rest of its life?? Don't people understand that the dog is a pack animal and should be in the house with its owners ( the pack) . To tie a dog outside for its entire life is cruel...

Indiana breeder's have you seen this proposed bill? http://www.akc.org/news/index.cfm?article_id=3123 Please e-mail the representatives about this bill, what you think should be included or excluded in it. They are trying to shut down a puppy mill in southern Indiana, and have not been able to so far, so they are proposing this bill. One of the biggest problems I see is the 14 day requirement for breeder's to pay vet bills. What happens if you sell a pup that has been vaccinated twice to a person who does not tell you that they just lost a dog from Parvo, then the dog picks up parvo on their property and dies. Also these people need to know that reputable breeder's do not make a profit on breeding dogs.

Important, please read and understand before replying. I have a 5/6 yo tan staffyx b*tch that recently got loose and attacked a flock of sheep, resulting in 6 deaths. It's never happened before, she has always been a fantasticly loyal, friendly, loving, obedient, home loving dog that has never bitten or attempted to bite anybody, including children - in fact she is loved by everybody she's ever met. I have been advised by the police, kennel staff and the farmer (my neighbour) that the dog should be destroyed, as she now has a "taste" for it and may kill again in the future. No destruction order was made but I can't run the risk of another occurance, or of the farmer shooting her. She is house trained, microchipped, vaccinated and healthy and has always been a lovely pet. I have booked her to be put down tomorrow morning and am desperately seeking a way to avoid this. If anybody is able to help please post on here or email me - boxster-boy@hotmail.co.uk

I have a 8month old doxie chon he gets an 1hour walk in the morning (before i go out). And then 30mins at night before he goes to bed. Hes full off energy and is never tired when we go for a walk. But yesterday as soon as we got outside he didnt want to walk and kept sitting down. So i went home, he was licking is back paw, and i noticed he had lost some of the pigment. And it was very smooth not like the other paws where there rough. Hes never tired when we go out so i never assumed it was a problem walking him that much i thought it was normal! Shall i just rest him and walk him on grass?
Thanks for any advice.
Regards Kim

In Australia has the new type of greenies been released?
Is it any better?
Is greenies just a treat or does it actually help dogs teeth?
Have dogs swallowed the new version of greenies?
Please see of you can give some stats on dogs that have died or swallowed greenies and say if that is with the new version or old version.
How can you tell if it's the new or old version of greenies?

Just give me as much detail as possible on greenies. My local vet sells them and I want them to stop but first I need some info.
Thanks!

I've been looking for a good kibble food for a dog and so far eukanuba look the best. Well is it? Do you reccomend it?
Also is there a type of kibble food you can get in Australia that doesn't have by-poducts in it because every type I've looked at has! Just give me your thoughts on all of this.
