In Australia has the new type of greenies been released?
Is it any better?
Is greenies just a treat or does it actually help dogs teeth?
Have dogs swallowed the new version of greenies?
Please see of you can give some stats on dogs that have died or swallowed greenies and say if that is with the new version or old version.
How can you tell if it's the new or old version of greenies?

Just give me as much detail as possible on greenies. My local vet sells them and I want them to stop but first I need some info.
Thanks!

as the same company puts out the new version, I sure wouldn't trust them for my own dogs...that's no statistic, but just me..
If you do a Yahoo search for 'greenies' you should find what you need.
these dates are pretty recent! > http://www.optimumchoices.com/Greenies.htm
these stories have been verified, so it isn't just urban myth..

Greenies aren't really bad if you get the appropriate size for your dog. Any treat you give your dogs can potentially be swallowed and kill the dog if it isn't the right size treat, or toy, for that dog. Bigger is always better so that the dog can't swallow it or try to swallow it. The new greenies are easier to digest. I think the packaging on the new greenies actually says something about the greenies being easier to digest, or new formula, or something like that. Greenies do help their teeth, but you can get hard rubber toys with the same kinds of ridges that greenies have to help clean teeth too. And any hard food or dog biscuits will also help clean teeth.

I actually haven't seen the new greenies as yet.
I have heard of dogs swollowing whole but apparently they are designed for particular size dogs its when people feed the wrong size that there is a problem, but then again I was told this by the rep (cenvet) who is the distributor of greenies in Australia.
I would be interested in seeing info on new verse old greenies also!

Greenies have been found to be very dangerous for dogs. They have gotten lodged in dogs intestines and throat, and have killed dogs from blockages and choking. They are not very digestable, and it's not recommended to give the greenies to your dog.

my Collie doesn't like to chew Greenies. She just spat out Bob Brown over my carpet.

ALL I KNOW IS, SOME DOGS HAVE SWALLOWED THEM AND DIED AND OTHER DOGS HAVE HAD THEM GET LODGED IN THEIR INTESTINES AND BLOCKED THEIR BOWELS AND DIED OR HAD TO HAVE EXPENSIVE SURGERY. I DO NOT BUY THEM FOR MY 3 DOGS. MY DOGS LIKE TO CHEW ON COW HOOVES WHICH I BUY IN A BAG OF 10 AT PETSMART-THEY LOVE THEM AND THEY CLEAN THEIR TEETH TOO-THEY ALSO LAST A LONG TIME. THE ONLY BAD THING IS, THEY STINK -(THAT'S WHY DOGS LIKE THEM, BY THE WAY)

I absolutely agree with Chetco. I have also referred to the site she mentions. The story of Burt the dachshund is heartwrenching.

I'd never use them. Our vet's office stopped carrying them, and we won't be carrying the new ones.

They smell bad first off.
And second off. . .if the first product was bad, and killed dogs, then i suggest moving onto a new brand that doesn't have statistics that show bad influences on dogs.
