Take your pup along to your local German Shepherd club and ask them what they think. They should be able to tell whether it is pure bred or not.
Some cross-breeds do look very like pure breeds and some pure-breeds don't look quite what they should!
I'm glad you love your pup anyway.

not sure I understand. How can the dad have been spayed and why does this matter or not to whether he has papers? It can still be a purebred german shepherd even if it isn't kennel club registered. If both parents are purebred dogs then of course she is purebred. You have bigger things to worry about than whether she has papers or not. Since the breeder wasn't bothered about papers, I bet she didn't bother having both the mum and dad hip or elbow scored, or tested to ensure they don't carry haemophilia, epilepsy, leukaemia or pancreatitis, all very common problems in the breed. Tell your mother that unless she knows that one of the parents are crossbred then your pup is indeed purebred. Kennel club registration doesn't prove a thing. All it does is allows you to show your dog. It isn't some kind of guarantee of health or quality.
Even the kennel club mucks up with paperwork and doesn't check to see that it is correct. One of the animal welfare officers I know, raided a puppy farmer recently who had paperwork for puppies showing 2 different litters were by the same parents. Only problem was that the litters were only 6 weeks apart in age!
Kennel club told her that they don't check or verify and couldn't do anything about it. So you have to ask yourself, just what exactly are people so worried about paperwork? Some years ago, one local dog dealer were selling collies with paperwork, which , when they grew up, were most definately NOT purebred, yet that had registration papers.

There is no way of knowing .Many pure breed dogs with pedigree and kennel club registration dont come up to breed standards thats why some dogs do better than others at dog shows even if they are the same breed and are pure breed. On the other hand I have seen crossbreed german shepherds that could have won any show as purebreed. So showing photos or asking a vet cant get you a definite answer. It is also most difficult to give opinion when it is still a pup because many pups look good when young and when they grow the crossbreeding comes out in size and coat etc.

Theres no way of telling unless you vcan get a dna sample from your dog and both supposed parents. All that would tell you is whether or not those two dogs really are the parents.
You could get a photobucket account (its free) and post photos, (about 600 x 400 pixels at 72 dpi so they don't take too long to download). You copy and paste the code into here and we could see the pics.

Then you'd get several opinions and you'd have to decide which one to go with.
A show judge could give you an informed opinion.
But the breed varies a lot, and at the end of the day it might be impossible to say with 100% certainty! You're more likely to get a 'probably' answer.

Ask the pup's mum who the father is ;-)
See, if mum is pure breed german shepherd but the father is a cross between a german shepherd and a belgian shepherd, you won't really be able to tell if your pup is pure breed or not.
If the puppy doesn't show very obvious signs of being a cross, then do not worry. You can be sure it will grow into a nice and srong dog looking just like a german shepherd. Love your pup as it is.

Just for the sake of saying to people "I have a German Shepard" vs "I have a German Shepard mutt." If the Mom has papers and the Dad is claimed to be pure and looked all German Shepard, I think it's reasonalbe to say "She's a German Shepard". Exact information would have important only if you had planned on breeding or showing the dog.

you should be able to tell by looking at the dog if its full or cross breed. Just because the dog dont have papers dont mean that it aint a pure breed

Well if ti coust you sleep at night apply for an ILP with AKC- this is a documantation that a strey/rescue appears purebred. and allows them in some forms of AKC events

Yeah it should be pretty obvious. Run a google image search for GSD and compare what you see with your dog. If there are differences, major ones, than you may just have a mix breed.

sometimes it's hard to tell. there may be a few features of other breeds you notice, but without knowing the parents, or seeing the papers, it's pretty hard, sometimes almost impossible.
