I think its very important to take ALL dogs to atleast 1 round of Obedience . It gives you a chance to bond with the dog , plus you learn how to work with them .

Me and my guy just adopted a dog today after looking for the right one for a while. Her temperament was so delightful and calm we had to get her. The downside is she's 10 months and never been exposed to cats before. She's a boxer-mix. She's obviously great with kids because I have a young boy.

Anyway, I had her in her crate and one of my cats came down and she got extremely excited and barking. Of course my cat took off light a bat out of h*** only exciting the dog that much more. So, I'm hoping for some good tricks to introduce her to the cats. I don't think she is going to be bad to the cats, it doesn't seem to be in her nature, but you never know when you adopt an animal. I haven't had to do this before because I was able to see how the dog would react to cats before adoption. We didn't have the luxury this time.

This is in refence to a question I posted yesterday about a dog that was tied outside (its 3 degrees outside now) with windchill putting it at-15... Our Animal Welfare is closed, and said to call llocal police which I did yesterday, which they said it has to wait till Monday. So last night I tried to bring him food, water, and some blankets, but couldnt get to him (fence) and how he is chained I cant get near him. So I threw some dog treats, and said some prayers....Today I called a friend. We decided we were gonna try to talk to owners, they didnt answer. We went to police station bawling and asking them for help. They said they'd try to get there tonight, if not Dog Warden will be in tomorrow...I was furious...I just went to check on him again (3 hrs after leaving police station) hes still out there pacing. The fence is locked, I cant get in, and dont know what to do? Is there a number to a National Humane Society I can call and complain to?? cont..

My pup is 7 weeks old, and I'm very concerned about his gait. He's very clumsy, and he can't walk in a straight line, and tends to "hop" instead of run. He looks very strange when he jumps backwards, compared to his sister. They are both JTR/Border Collie mix. Can anyone identify what's wrong with him? I don't believe he has hip displasia...

but then allow them to sit on my lap when invited, would that be too inconsistent for learning/hard to understand? Sometimes my little dogs come in with wet paws and get marks all over the couch, I put an old sheet on it, but they just ruffle it up with their digging and rolling, and end up getting the couch filthyanyway. I would just say stay off the couch all together, but my little girl and I enjoy sitting on the couch with the dogs while we are talking, reading a book or watching a movie. They really are sweet and lovable, just sometimes grubby.

My local pound has a German Shorthaired Pointer that is in danger of being euthanized this week. The problem is we already have 3 big dogs, 2 of mine and the other is my boyfriend's. Mine are in training for Search and Rescue, and from what I have read the GSP is good for this job too. Do I rescue him or leave him there? I am wondering if I could work with him to make him more adoptable, or keep him as a search dog if he shows the inclination. Problem is my bf says no more dogs (i'd have to 'find' this one!).

If your dog wanted to get into your bed would you let it in? I have two dogs, Toby a large German Shepherd cross breed, and Sasha a pedigree Staffie. Toby will sleep on my bed for a while at night then jump down and sleep on the carpet, but Sasha is on my bed all night and sometimes wants to get under the covers for a cuddle, especially if it gets cold overnight. Even when she's on the top of the covers she's still right beside me, and sometimes she has more of the bed than I do! I know I've spoilt her and it's my fault she's like this, but she doesn't have fleas or worms and in that repsect it's not too unhealthy. I hope.
Would you let your dog in your bed?

My shepard has been limping for two months. He has been to the vet on numerous occations (costing me well over $1,000). I have asked another vet's opinion and none of them can tell me what is wrong with him and THINK it may be sprain. I talked to the vet last week and she told me I need to think about his quality of life and sugested I put him down. Are they telling me this to cover up their incompetence? Whould anyone actually kill thier dog because he limps?

Other facts: Shepard is only 9 months old, does like to play, and does not limp when he takes doggie ibeprophen. He can move and use the leg, but he does not put pressure on it. And I love him very much!

Ok all I just moved down here to texas.. before that I only saw a tick once in my life.. I have 3 dogs.. & I let my dogs run in the yard with the 2 outside dogs here.. Not knowing that thoses dogs had ticks beyond anything I have ever seen or would like to again...Once We found about 20 big female ticks on our dogs we decided to shave the dogs to see just how bad the tick problem is.. Only to find our dogs are Covered in 100's of baby ticks.. some are so tiny they just look like little red dots.. My 3 dogs are inside dogs.. I have seen baby ticks on my bed ( gross I know, just think how I feel) My question is.. what can I do.. to get them Off my dogs.. Again Some are to small to pull off.. & how do I get them out of my house & yard... Again I just moved here So Im short of funds.. But I welcome any thoughts on this....

I am going to be adopting a Cardigan Welsh Corgi and was told that she had her voice altered because they are a breed that tends to be really vocal when they are board. What are the other benefits and or draw backs to voice altering? I don't need to hear its cruel as it was already done and very common in the breed.
Thanks for your info.
