She is fed 3 to 4 X per day and 3 cups each time. It seems like we never feed her or give her water? I have had her to the vet and he gave me vit. said she may b lacking something.... also its gross but she eats her own poop!!

Winter is here, so it stands to reason my dog has an interest in staying warm - but he's tripping, friends. He lays right up to the fireplace screen on the hearth, and his body gets so hot, its too hot on my hands to touch his fur, yet he wants to stay there/won't budge. He always gravitates toward heat. When the fireplace isn't lit, he lies over the heat ducts, or in sunshine streaming in the windows. In the summer, he always wants to be in the direct sunshine, even on the scorching pavement or sand, no idea how he stands it. He is a 7 yr old Lab/Husky mix. He's suffered seizures in the last year (not heat stroke or heat-related, though the vet couldn't tell us why he's suddenly epileptic). I know dogs' natural body temps run higher than humans, and that [since] they don't sweat, they can't regulate their temp, but that still doesn't explain this behavior to me - I'm concerned about this as a health issue beyond a quirky behavioral issue wherein he thinks he's a reptile or something.

I have had a jar of this peanut butter for months and I use it to give my dogs thier medication.. just a tiny bit. but I will no longer use it for them. ..

but I am wondering.. Can dogs get salmonella?
as I've seen other people give dogs raw foods... and stray dogs must get into garbage with it all the time?

My dogs have seem to show no sign.. but if they did get it.. would they just vomit or have dirreaha?

I myself have eaten Peter Pan peanut butter in the past few weeks with the code they are now warning people about - "2111" and I have not been sick from it.. so I myself am wondering if it had salmonella in it.. I should have gotten sick from it, right? but I won't eat anymore of it.

Thanks to anyone who can offer helpful advice on this!

I will be talking to a couple of breeders this weekend, and I want to make sure that I am getting what I pay for. What are some questions that I should ask owners/breeders before I purchase a dog?

Hello all...my beloved Great Dane, Rory has taken to growling when I get home for work and yelping at inappropriate times...like 4 am...in a continuous pattern...which keeps me awake all night. Nothing has changed at home, except for the three parrots I bought to keep him company, eenie, meenie and minie. They are usually kept in their cages, but sometimes I let them move around the house. Any idea what gives with Rory?

How can I treat it and how can I prevent my other dog(Jake) from getting it? We are going to the vet next month for their shots, but his ear(s) smell so bad that it's nauseating to sit next to him. I've noticed that my other dog's ear has some mites but not as bad as Jesse. I've heard that ear mites and transfer to other dogs... I want to help him but I don't know what to do.

So...I got to thinking...Who put it there and for what purpose. I called the CIA in Langley and the National Security Agency...neither one admitted to placing a listening device in my Great Dane's ear. Now I'm concerned that all my conversations and phone calls are being monitored by some freaky secret agency. Anybody else find a chip in their pet's ear???

I love German Shephards, I like their friendly but protective personalities, but mostly i love their looks. My mom doesnt like how dogs smell which is a main reason why she wont let me have one. I know bigger dogs tend to smell more and are harder to handle. So, is there a mixed breed of German Shephard mix that looks like a German Shephar, had the friendly personality, but maybe isnt so wild(i still want it energetic) and not as big?

Just the name of the breed mix will help, or u can give me links to websites or pics 2. Thanks

I am very worried that if I neuter my puppy that he will lose his spunk and playfulness. I want to do what best for him, but I also want to make sure he is happy. I heard they gain lots of weight and become less active which could contribute to lots of health problems. It also makes me feel bad to literally castriate a dog. I don't really know much about it...please help. ONLY SERIOUS ANSWERS FROM PEOPLE WITH KNOWLEDGE ON THE SUBJECT!

I have a bassett hound - who often swallows so quickly without having chewed - case of if it smells edible he will swallow without a second thought - unbelievable but worrying at times.

Help! I have a Corgi puppy and we are having a hard time potty training her. We have potty pads in the kitchen and we take her to the pad to go potty. Most of the time she will go for us. The problem is if we don't take her to the potty pad she will go where ever she wants to. I know it takes time for her to understand what she is supose to do. Should we keep her in the kitchen and only bring her out when we can give her 100% attention until she gets the idea. Do you think she will finally get it. Please help. I don't want her to think that she is in trouble when we leave her in the kitchen. I am afraid she might get afraid to go in the kitchen thinking she might get lock up.

I have a wonderful husky that is pretty well trained. He is very gentle, and I think he would be a good dog to bring to hospitals and visit with patients.
However, I have no idea how to get started. I am 14 and live in Illinois. Is there a certain program I can enter him in? Could you please explain step-by-step how to get going?

Thanks!

she is 9 years old. i haven't changed her diet, i bathe her regularly, i brush her teeth, and i have even tried adding a few drops of Scope to her drinking water, but it didn't help, so i quit doing that. she's a well behaved dog, who thinks she's a cat. she trained herself to a litter box when she was only 2 yrs. old. i love her to pieces, but she STINKS! it's quite embarrasing when people visit. does she really smell that bad, or is it me? (lol) i mean, i had a stroke three years ago, and she has smelled this way for three years. what's a mother to do?

I have one dog, he is alittle over two years old. he is a am staff/blk chow mix. About a week ago my friends stayed over with her female boxer and they just had the best time playing and chasing one another... When she left alls he did was mope around the house and lay where the female slept.. Right now when were not home and the dog sitter isnt there my dog has full run of the basement.. well my friend is moving to florida and might have to get rid of her dog.. my friend does wasnt to just give her dog to any one and she says that she would only turn her over to me.. cause she knows i'll take good care of her and she would be in a loving home.. well recently i just loxst my boxer to cancer and her little boxer just reminds me so much of my old dog maxine.. except she is a fawn not a reverse brindle.. what do you think i should do.. whether my friend gives me her dog or not

A kid who previously broke his leg on our trampoline and was in a wheelchair for three months (we were not home and there were over 10 kids on the 20' tramp) got bitten by my sisters dog the other day.

The dog is a 15 pound welsh terrier who only displays aggression to teenagers and young kids who get very close to her. We believe she was abused by her previous owner (s). The dog was on a makeshift show halter (she is a purebred AKC showdog) when she broke the knot and took off after the kid as he ran down our yard screaming (for no reason).

The bite was about 2" by 1", and only drew a drop of blood (most of it was just bruised). The child went to the doctor, and the doctor called the county. We have to have the dog in a 10 day quarantine however she shows no signs of rabies and for the 6 months we have had her has always been this way (mildly aggresive towards people she doesn't know or that make loud noises).

Does anyone have tips to help save our dog. Help plz.

Mickey is 1.5 years old and has been diagnosed by our vet as having Idiopathic Epilepsy, he has been placed on Phenobarbital and has been taking this medication for the last 6 months, during these 6 months he has not had any seizures at all and has resumed to being his happy go lucky self; playing and getting into mischief.
However, over the last 2 weeks he started having random seizures (small facial seizures that lasted 5-15 seconds). These only seem to happen at night while he is sleeping. My wife and I seem to think it may be triggered by dreams he may be having. We took him to his vet who pretty much told us that Mickey is a seizure dog and will have the occasional seizure even while on phenobarbital.
I can understand that, but i cant help but feeling that i need more of an explanation. Why was he fine with no seizures for the first 6 months, why is he all of a sudden having small seizures while he is sleeping? Will they subside with his continuing medication?
