she is 9 years old. i haven't changed her diet, i bathe her regularly, i brush her teeth, and i have even tried adding a few drops of Scope to her drinking water, but it didn't help, so i quit doing that. she's a well behaved dog, who thinks she's a cat. she trained herself to a litter box when she was only 2 yrs. old. i love her to pieces, but she STINKS! it's quite embarrasing when people visit. does she really smell that bad, or is it me? (lol) i mean, i had a stroke three years ago, and she has smelled this way for three years. what's a mother to do?

Now deep down we know who it really is dear , try and get some help with your bathing,if it is too difficult for you to reach certain parts of your body due to your stroke.
I don't mean this in an unkind manner, please don't take it as an insult, but I've worked with stroke pts. for years and sometimes its hard to admit that you may need a personal assistant, but you
could be happier in the long run, and make a good friend.

The dog may indeed stink, but maybe not as bad as you percieve. Get other opinions. I say this because sometimes our smeller gets messed up. During a sinus problem a few years ago during I could detect only a few odors of a specific item, instead of smelling the entire product, as I had previously. For instance the cologne I had used for years smelled strange because I could process only a few of the aromas within the product. Was a strange experience and lasted several months.

Like a previous poster said, take her to a vet to see if there is an underlying skin issue that needs to be addressed. Dogs can have a bad odor if there is a skin infection or allergy.
As for her breath, she might need a dental. Dental disease and tartar can make a dog's breath absolutely horrendous! PLEASE don't use Scope in the drinking water - human toothpastes and mouthwashes are not good for pets and can be toxic. If you are brushing your dog's teeth, use a pet toothpaste that you can get at a pet store or your veterinarian's office.
Hope all of this helps!

as a mother of a basset hound i understand. If your dog is a hound you have to understand that they produce an oil that will always smell. you can't bathe your dog often for it will only lead to dryness and flaking. Dogs smell. Try using some baby powder under the arm pits every other day between baths, abd maybe dog deodorant sprays.

Have the vet check her out. Many times a skin infection will have a repulsive odor. Bathing her won't help the odor go away, either.
It also could be your sense of smell. Possibly the stroke messed up your senses a bit.

I would take her to a vet she might have an infection.Or it might be the kind of dog she is. For example alot of hound dogs stink no matter how much you bath them.

Some dogs just have bad b.o. just like some people do. Check your pet store for a deodorizing shampoo and spray. Animals are supposed to smell like animals. We're the strange ones who try to hide our natural scent.

well, first you should ask ppl who come to your house if they think she smells to see if ther's really a problem . if there reallly is then maybe you could try those dog bones that freshen thier breath and try another kind of shampoo, also maybe you could use regular human shampoo-i do that sometimes-just use a smaller amount :)
