is it ok to not play with my dog first thing in the morning, until he pees/poos outside? I have just kept putting him in his crate and taking him potty every 15 min. until he pees/poos, and it is after breakfast...so I know he's going to have to go.
Will this help at all, him trying to get the picture, that there is no play until he goes outside?

Or is that harsh?

I live in the U.S. / Other than hearing that the 2 brothers who overfed him were arrested for cruelty to animals. There hasn't been any follow up with regard to the condition of Rusty at this point and or if he will be returned to the same owners.

I would really love to have a dog and I think adopting would be the best choice, although I do have reservations as I work full time and I am out of the house from 7am till 6pm. Is this too long to leave a new dog alone in a strange flat?

Ok!

How do I start I have 4 healthy dogs checked out by the vet and ready to breed. But when they are here I wanted to sell them. I just don't want to be doing anything illigel. I know what somepeople are going to say first you need to study the breed and go to dog shows and I did that. And for the breeders out there can you give some advice or story about your breed.

I want to adopt a female jap. chin pup for companion purposes o nly. I found one that is 6 months old & weighs 2 and a half pounds! Average chins weigh anywhere from 4-7 and then some may even weight up to 16-18lbs! There are two different sizes of chins. Anyways, the 2.5 lb. 6 mon. old girl is absolutely precious. I want to adopt her so bad, but I'm a little worried since she is so tiny and possibly having health or genetic problems that I don't know about now or later on. The lady is willing to give me a 72 hours health guarantee where I can take her to the vet and get her checked. She has also had all of her shots & has had no health problems and potty trained. She hasn't started her on heart worms and that concerns me (she has a lot of other dogs too). Should I adopt her & take her straight to the vet or wait. The lady bought her for herself to breed, but the puppy is too small to breed. Pup is not resistered, I don't want to breed/show. Should I get this pup or keep looking??

I read in the paper today about a dog that was part "doxen". Now, I know what a Dachshund is, but I've never heard of a Doxen.

I have a dog that repeatedly tries to get into a room by scratching on the door He is o.k. with the rest of the house.I remember as a kid that my mother use to use a plant to deter dogs.I would rather a natural repellent rather than a chemical.

How common is it for a dog to eat his own faeces? Will it do any harm. It is always dryish. Is this something I should be concerned about?

My dog is such a wonderful baby and is the best baby anyone could have. However, I think he is a little strange. He loves carrots, and most veggies. Today took the cake, he ate frozen broccoli and begged for more. Is my baby strange or do all dogs eat frozen broccoli?

I want to know if anyones dog has had side effects such as inability to use back legs properly, lethargy and rapid breathing from putting Advantage (not advantix) on them for flea treatment. If so pls advise what happened and if vet believed it was the problem or not. Advantage and my vet do not believe that the product is capable of causing those problems although I have spoken to several people who have had the same experience.

Hi have a 6 yrs old German Shepherd. She recently had hematoma. Our vet manage to drain it - we did it frequently. Now, the wound has healed. Unfortunately, her ears has dropped ever since. It has left a pretty thick layer on her ears. I really really hope she can have her ears stand up again. Will that ever happen? What can we do to get her ears standing again? The vet said, the chances are 50-50 and the only thing we can do is give her hot water treatment (place a cloth dapped in hot water). So far, it doesn't seem to work.

I have a 3 year old lhasa apso who came from an abusive home before us and has bit me in the face, calf, and hands because i annoyed him with unwanted petting or food taken away. His bites are not severe, but he is a snappy dog with a scary harmful attitude. He's also bit several of my family members and visitors. Where can i give him away, but NOT a shelter that will kill him? Know of any rescue homes or trainers?

We already have a 7 month old tabby cat, and my boyfriend wants to get a staffordshire bull terrier as he loves dogs. I've agreed on the condition that we buy the dog as a young puppy and it must be female. Will that make things more peaceful between the cat and dog?
Does anyone have experience with owning a staffie in the same household as cats?

Aggressive to other dogs and some humans, esp when together with her sister, they form a pack.Have tried disciplining her by saying firm NO and pulling on her neck. But this is recurring nightmare as I never know when she will snap at the other dogs or human. This is despite her living for 10 months in pet shelter with plenty of socialisation with other dogs and humans.
