i found a stray dog (sherpherd mix) he is about 1 or 2 he weighs about 55 pounds (very very skinny) but should be around 70. he has been to the vet and tested heartworm positive :( also has all kinds of intestinal worms. he also had some green mucus coming out of his nose but no eye discharge coughing or fever. the vet warned me he may have distemper and is running a test. he is on dewormer and antibiotics for the nasal discharge. he is such a picky eater which is suprising considering he probably ate garbage. i have been feeding him cooked ground beef and chicken breasts because he wont eat wet or dry dog food! he is such a sweet dog and i just want to get him well! has anyone else had a similar experience? any suggestions..

My 17 week old male bichon frise puppy got his last series of shots yesterday and I was all excited to take him for his first walk today. However, for some strange reason, I couldn't get him to move. He seemed to scared to even take a step off of the porch. And when I say he wouldn't move, I MEAN HE WOULDN'T MOVE!! He was just chewing at the leash and I didn't want to pull on it so we just came back inside. Is there something I'm doing wrong??? HELP!!

There are people writing things about dogs that have devoted their lives to understanding dogs Some have written about it. Some have have achieved Advanced Degrees studying dog behavior and all trained and rehabilitated thousands of dogs between them. People like Suzanne Clothier, Dr. Ian Dunbar, Dr. Patricia McConnell, Jean Donaldson, Turid Rugaas, Leslie Nelson, Terry Ryan, Steve White, Karen Pryor, Ray Coppinger, Bobby Anderson, John Rogerson, Brenda Aloff, Pamela Dennison, Roger Abrantes, Nicole Wilde, and more.

Yet, if some former illegal immigrant who happens to be good at handling and scaring the crap out of dogs gets a TV show, everybody believes everything he says, in spite of how many dogs he hasn't helped (they don't show that part of TV) or how many dogs went on to bite their own owners afterwards. (lots of them. I have a client who was a vet in Orange County and met many dogs fixed by Cesar, who had to be put down when he was finished with them)

badly. she head was shaking especially badly. Her legs were very tight and stiff close to her sholders. I put here down to see if she was just cold or afriad and she was kind of falling over. I picked her up and help her and it stopped withen three minutes. Then i put her down to see if she was okay and she was dragging her back legs. I have a vet apt. for tommrow but im just wondering what you think this is. There was no foaming of the mouth, tounge sticking out, or anything like that.

ok well, my mum and dad came home last nite and said that we were getting a dog from a man, who lives in a nursing home and can no longer look after it. i have always thought about getting a dog however since my cat can be very agressive towars other animals i thort better of it. We have the dog now but i think its a bit cruel, we dont let it inside all that much seeing as though our cats inside most of the day and when the dog comes inside at nite the cat will growl and hiss and her. We keep the dog in a little run all by its self, most of the time we are all working and i start tafe soon. i feel cruel leaving it there on its on and how it cannot come inside all that often. i wanna talk to my parents about it but i feel mean saying i dont think we should have it and it would be better off in another home...what do you think i should do we have only had the dog for a couple of days, do you think i should wait a week....

Well, long story short, had a doberman and had 3 sweaters given to me, and they where great cause the cold weather really got to her. But, she got old and passed away, and i just got a new doberman, but she's not as big as my other and the sweaters don't fit. She is about a year old and resued from animal shelter so she's probably full grown now. So just looking for a free crochet pattern for a sweater for her. I've searched to no avail, and thought maybe somebody out there has one. Thanks in advance.

Urine-odor removing sprays do not deter him. He is neutered, and he goes outside approx. 5 times a day.

I can't have the dog for a few months, until summer, when I can get into my apartment. I prefer to have a puppy so that training will just be mixed in with the usual training and also because I miss having a puppy around. I don't have any other pets with me right now. I am extremely passonate about therapy work and I can't wait to get into it. I need suggestions of breeders that will have litters around late summer to early or mid fall. I would love to have an aussie but other suggestions are welcome as well.

we give our dogs (An Elkhound of 11 years, and a Husky-Chow-mix of 3) oils from meats on their food all the time, because it benefits there skin and teeth.

But I was wondering, are the oils from fish any good for them? Is so, what do they help with?

I already called the emergency vet, he said bread and mineral oil. Anyone else had this problem and/or have any advice? I am a nervous wreck, how long do I have to wait? Will he pass it through a bowel movement or vomit? He is a German Shepard just over a year......

My dog is in labor now, and we found out about it too late to get an X-ray done. She is a small dog and did not get very big. I am worried about how to tell if she has more puppies inside. What are the physiological symptoms? My husband and I will have her spayed as soon after the whelping as is safe, so please don't scold about spaying and neutering. What's done is done. I would appreciate any friendly help!

My dog an 8 month old Mastiff mix is nuts. When i take him to the yard to play at night he usually wont stop jumping on me and nipping at me. He is 70 pounds of muscle and it hurts. If i tell him no it does nothing. If i walk away he bites my ankles. If i stand still he keeps jumping on me. Sometimes I grab him and hold him down on his back but when he gets up he keeps at it. Should i smack him with a paper or spray him with a bottle. I know he need s more exercise and hes hyper but I cant have him run if hes acting this way. What should i do at that moment.

I have a 6 month old yellow lab mix pup, great temperament and well behaved indoors. Our back yard is large and fenced and when I take him out he loves to run and play but he won't come when I call him. How do I train him to come when called? He does great on a leash, but I want to be able to let him into our fenced yard and know he'll come in when I want him to. Right now I have to chase the little booger down, and of course he thinks it is a fine game. Ignoring him or leaving him out there is a good last resort but doesn't solve the problem. Help!

my 11yr old F kelpie seems to have a small lump inside her belly. It is just under the skin and moves when i push it about. She doesnt register pain and seems ok, sometimes pants alot but i think thats age related. it isnt visible from sight only touch. could it be cancer of just fatty deposits . she is about 3-4 kg overweight, but otherwise fine.
