I have cats and dogs and there is no excuse for anyone, other than a breeder, for not spaying or neutering, end of story!

Everyone has their reasons...I have 2 female dogs and both are fixed- I also foster dogs every now and then and they always get fixed either before the adoption or the new owners sign a contract stating they will get the dog fixed or the dog will be returned to the rescue organization. Dogs that are not being bred definitely need to be fixed so the pet population can be under better control. There are plenty of low cost spay/neuter clinics available so someone really can't use the excuse of how much it might cost.

However, since there are no laws governing this issue- there is no way of enforcing it.

I have 2 cats and 2 dogs and all but one dog has been altered.
Him we may want to breed if we can find a suitable *****.My husband bred dogs for many years and knows well the risks involved as well as what to look for in a suitable mate.We know what questions to ask buyers and already have a contract drawn up for prospective buyers of the pups that includes a clause stating the dog no matter it's age will return to us for re-homing rather than ever end up in a shelter. We are fully prepared to raise and keep every pup if necessary.
In the meantime.I keep both dogs active enough that the un-altered one is too tired to run off and get into mischief. They get lots of exercise and mental stimulation.Neither will leave my side.

1. They are show dogs, and some are breeding stock

2. I do performance events/trials with some, and dogs have better muscle (and heavier, shorter bone, when S/N young) when they are left intact.

3. Fixed dogs have a 30% higher chance of bone cancer, one of the most common cancers in dogs. S/N dogs are not necessarily healthier, you have to weigh the pros and cons.

There is no need to fix dogs at all, unless you are too stupid or lazy to manage them. Although, judging from the people here, it seems to be a struggle for some, to care for animals properly. I have had intact dogs for 30 years, and have never contributed a single dog to a shelter, never an 'oops' litter either.

i have two indoor cats but i still had them neutered,i don't think there is any excuse not to have your pet fixed.
1)they are generally healthier
2)helps to prevent unwanted animals
3)im sure every person on earth has seen at least one episode of the Price is Right and Bob Barkers says help control the pet population have your pet spayed or neutered on every single episode for like 30 years.

My doggie was spayed when we got her from the pound, but we set aside money to have a dog spayed or neutered when we got it.

Unless you are a professional breeder, there really isn't an excuse that I can find to be valid in anyway in my mind.

You have to...the pet population is so overwhelming now and there are certainly not enough homes for all those cute little animals (trust me, if I could, I would take them all). There are shelters all over the country that are not accepting animals because they are too full. If you want another kitty or puppy, go there, and get one more off the street.

my dogs are not fixed and wont be as long as i breed pitbulls but if i sell any of my adults they'll go only with a spay contract but i dont do spay contracts on my pups cause not everyone wants their dog fixed and it's their right to make this decision when they buy their dogs

My 2 Schutzhund titled Giant Schnauzers are working dogs that I use not only in competition, but to breed. I also own a rescue GS that is spayed.
