I have a 2 year old shih tzu, and her rib sticks out. Is this a deformity? She was born this way.Does anybody have a dog that has a rib that sticks out? I can totally feel it when I pick her up. Will it cause her problems? Does anybody know? Thanks..

I am not particularly handy -- the instructions I'm finding online seem to talk about stripping wire, digging trenches etc.

On the other hand, I have no idea what professional installation costs or how to find it (I haven't yet found a dealer/installer in the Los Angeles area but just started looking today after finding our dog in the front of our house, where he almost got hit by a car).

Have any of you found an electric pet system that's easy to install, or have you paid someone who will do the work? If so, what did it cost and how did you find them?

It has to be the kind of fence that is activated by the dog's collar since we have children. Our back yard is surrounded by some fencing, and by long stretches of 4 foot hedges edged by chicken wire. The Golden Retriever has now learned to jump into and over the bushes. A regular fence would be prohibitively expensive and would destroy our view.

Thanks.

Okaay i was reading the paper about how these people ducted taped this dog and then fried it and baked it. These people lived in ATL. The teenagers who done this went to court and dont know how much time they got but, I think it is very awful. The puppy was only 3 months old. THATS VERY BAD I MEAN HOW COULD SOMEONE DO A DOG LIKE THAT?? Does anybode think that they should get the death sentence,,,I do and does anybody kno anymore information on it??

so i finally convinced my mom to get a puppy, but now i dont know what to name hime.
first let me describe him, so names are easier to choose.
he is a jack russel terrier
he is fun, spunky, playful, roumbunctios, smart, & outgoing
he is white with a brown face and 3 brown spots near his behind.

here are some names i had in mind:
1) riley
2) cooper
3) bandit

you can either vote on these names, or choose a whole new name, but i am searching for the PERFECT name so please help!!!

Showing them the hole and spanking their butts or smacking their noses has not worked and I'm sick of it. If I can't get them to quit they may have to go. I'm not going to put a footing around my entire perimeter just to stop this.

Over a year ago I have rescued a wonderfull dog: a rhodesian ridgeback mix-2yr old female and after that a boxer-1yr old male. We love them to death. They are very well natured, people-loving animals. We put them through obedience classes.
We just found out that I'm pregnant. My In-laws want us to get rid of them, because it's "unsafe" and "unhealthy" for a baby. I'd never do that because they are my babies too. But do you think they have a point? Are me making the right decision by not giving them up?

My dog has a bald patch above and around his tail. I've treated him regularly for worms and fleas. I also bath him with special shampoo from the vets. The vet thinks it could be stress but we've tried what he suggested and it hasn't worked. Has anyone got any idea how we can stop it?

I just read on one of the answers where someone said if your dog needs prescriptions to have your vet write one and put it in your own name - where as your co pay will take care of it just as if it were your own. Is This True? My dog takes a meds for seisures and at times it can get rather expensive.

Puppy trouble?
I just bought a beautiful little girl puppy on Jan 23. The trouble is she's loves attention which is nice but when I go to bed she goes to sleeps for about 4 hours then wants to play and have cuddles. She's only 3 months old and hasn’t had her injections yet which she is having on Monday, so I can't really take her out yet for walks just in case she catches something and right now she's to little and afraid. I've put newspaper everywhere but she's hiding and going of the newspaper. I've never had a puppy before only full grown dogs so can someone give me information on looking a pup.
What it is we haven’t got grass in our back garden it's all concrete, because my mother in law has 6 full grown dogs herself that's why I can't let her go in the garden yet with the other dog's. But when she gets her shots at the vet's I will take out for walks. Now the vet is telling me I can't take her out until 3 weeks after her injections, What should I do.

I correct him if he nips at me or my daughter, and when I do..sometimes he'll bark and show his teeth at me!! Obviously I dont show any fear to him, because Im not. But, what am I suppose to do when he does this? I know he is showing he doesnt agree with my being Alpha, isnt this him protesting when he barks and shows teeth at me?

I go outside first, up the stairs first. we all eat first, he doesnt get fed our food. I have rolled him onto his side and stared at him, and he doesnt seem to want to back down from that.

Why is he making this so tough?
Am I doing something wrong? He'll be in puppy obedience classes starting Feb. What can I do now, to help with his behavior before these classes?

I have a 5 mo old boxer and she is very skinny. We feed her twice a day plus give her a treat throughout the day. I brought her to the vet and he said she was prefectly healthy and it would just take a little while to get her fattened up. I know boxers are a lean bread but her ribs show. They don't show a whole lot when shes walking around but when shes laying on her side or sniffing around it does. It feel like I'm depriving her of neutrition but Im feeding her quality puppy food. Any help on getting her a little fatter?

My neighbors who are from another country do not understand the dog tether law. I understand that in their country it is normal for them to tether pit bulls on short ropes in their front yards. It may be difficult to handle a sensitive issue where there is a cultural difference of opinion. What is the best way to handle this?

We recently got a 4 month old puppy from a foster home/shelter who was listed as a Great Dane. He is 4 months old and weighs 42lbs.

We brought him to our vet and have been extremely stressed since. The vet said he is at least 20% pitbull and is probably 6 months old and will only get to be about 70 lbs. We called the shelter back and she said that is not possible because the place he came from only have Great Danes and hunting dogs so it is not possible. The problem is we do not want a pitbull even though people say this is an okay breed - it is just not what we want at all. We want a Great Dane and have always gotten rescue dogs in the past and love that idea.

What breed does he look like? What traits should we look for? I have posted his picture on Flickr. If you sign in and go to contacts, it is under angieclchiro. Please help us! Thank you!

I called the vet who spayed our epileptic female dog several years ago (and she died right after wards) to ask them how much it would be to spay a new puppy I just got. Took me several years to find another Australian Shepherd to replace my poor girl who died.
This other receptionist just told me pain killers would be a extra cost. Is this normal not to give pain killers after a sugary?
I am wondering to if this is the cause of my other seizures dog dying after that same vet spayed her....I was shocked when she just told me this does not come with the $118 bill.

Is this common not to give pain killers after a spay or neuter? I would think this is a major surgery and would be painful?
All our dogs are fixed but it has been a while since we had a small puppy here.
Thank you in advance...

I've been researching breeds, as I plan to get a dog in about 6 months and want to choose the right one. I've owned a large dog in the past (80 lbs) and love them. Research has told me that Swissies are hard to housebreak, and can be a bit strong-willed, but they are great with kids, other dogs, and very playful and loyal to the family. Have you found this to be true? Do you have a problem with heavy shedding or is it seasonal? Do they drool? Are they content with long walks or do they prefer to run? Any info is helpful!

Hi i just want peoples experiences and opions. Ive only ever owned male dogs before and only had 1 at a time. My dog is nearly 8months and is neutured, any other dog i would get would also be neutured at 6months. My dog gets on great with other dogs but i have been told he is a dominant dog. So does it matter what sex of dog i get. As i prefear male dogs, or to be on the safe side and opt for a female?
Thanks for any input!
