Uterine infection is a surgical emergency. Her uterus should be removed (speyed) and with supportive care (IV fluids, antibiotics, pain relief) most dogs recover within a few days. Uterine infections are quite serious and many complications can arise however (such as the uterus rupturing into the abdominal cavity) so be sure to talk through all your options with your vet.
As long as the infection is caught in it's early stages and action is taken immediately your dog has a more-than-fair chance for a good outcome.

The antibiotics the vet gave for the dog should clear it up. Make sure that the dog has access to water at all times. The dogs temperature of 103 is not serious as the normal temperature for a dog is between 101 and 102 degrees anyway.

I have a female pitt bull. She had her first litter of puppies a little over a year ago, she is 8 years old now. I noticed she was laying around alot and so I took her to the vet, she had the same problem and I had to get her fixed. Is your dog fixed? If not she may end up with uterine cancer which is VERY likely in older female dogs. If she is fixed, then she may need surgery to have her uterous taken out....also, has she ever had puppies? If so how long ago? She may have after birth in her still that caused the infection!!

well, since its been so long since the last litter, you should consider getting her spayed (if thats not the outcome of the illness anyways) since it doesnt seem like she's still intact for breeding purposes. i havent had to deal with this personally, but dont worry about spaying having much of an effect on your poor pup. it really wont harm them. and it will help with her chances of cancer later on in life.
good job on getting her to the vet, and i hope everything goes ok. make sure she's getting lots of fluids, with a temp that high she can get dehydrated faster and that can just cause more problems. infections can be deadly, so i hope your vet gave you some meds, or you could be looking and surgery just to drain the infection, let alone repair any damages.

103 is not really a fever in a dog. Dogs have a higher body temp than people do. If she has an infection,I'm assuming your vet put her on antibiotics?

sounds like it COULD be a pyometra, infection of the uterus is unspayed females. if this is the case it is considered a surgical emergency and she needs to get spayed right away.
