I just read on one of the answers where someone said if your dog needs prescriptions to have your vet write one and put it in your own name - where as your co pay will take care of it just as if it were your own. Is This True? My dog takes a meds for seisures and at times it can get rather expensive.

It's called insurance fraud, if you get caught you will face possible criminal charges, fines, repayment, and lose your own benefits. An no other insurance company will touch you because of insurance fraud. (applies to your home auto life etc not just future medical insurance)

Insurance Fraud also cause insurance rates to go up for the rest of the population.

Which is more expensive?

Shabby your source isn't saying it's okay to commit insurance fraud. All it's saying is you have the right to BUY your pet meds wherever you want, and that you have options, generic v brand name etc. Which is a no brainer! You can shop where you like, but pay for your pet meds, stop ripping off insurance companies .

Yeah...and when your insurance company finds out that you are getting prescriptions from a VET, they can DROP you like a hot potato!!!!!

And maybe there will be a RED FLAG for the insurance company when you are suddenly getting meds for seizures....when you have not had a diagnosis!!!!!!!

Hey, go for it!!! Let us know if it wokrs!!

IF you get ANY vet prescription filled at a regular pharmacy, that is what they do...the PET name and YOUR last name. You can get any pet med that is also a human med at a pharmacy, with a prescription. Many vets do not stock Phenobarbitol because it is a controlled substance, so the script it out. And it is CHEAP too.

You DO NOT need insurance to get a pet script filled at a human pharmacy.

As someone already said, it's called insurance fraud, and your vet will never risk his or her license to save you a few bucks. Not only that, you're most likely dealing with a controlled substance if it's a seizure medication. Fraud = Jail.

My beagle has epilepsy. The vet wrote a prescription, with my dogs first name and my last name (Max De La Rosa). I get a 3 month supply of pills (he takes 2 a day) and it costs me $10.99. Thats all I pay every 3 months, which isn't too bad!! Trust me they really help...I didn't have to use ANY insurance either!!!

Yes. This is true. I have done it with all the pets that I own. As long as the prescription is a drug that us humans take, your local pharmacy should be able to fill it. And as you mentioned, the cost is whatever your co-pay is.

Great question! Spread the word...
