I really love their look, but heard they shed a lot alot. Since I am looking for non-shedding dog, they are not good? If so, is there any breed looks like them but not shedding?

They have an anal glad that has to be expressed by the vet, if not it expresses itself and really really stinks. Has anyone expirienced this? Can the vet remove the gland?

My dog quit eating over a month ago. They think she got some fungus in her lungs so they took blood to verify. They gave me meds to give her for that in case it's positive. She absolutely WILL NOT eat at home. However, every time we bring her to the vet, they say she's eating fine there. We can't keep her meds down because she wont eat at home and the meds upset her empty stomach. But every time we take her back to the vet, she eats everything they give her. It's not the food, we tried that. I don't understand what her issue is, and why she would eat there but not at home. I'm at wits end. After 3 visits to the vet and over $500, i'm going nuts, I just want her to eat!

my dog is about 13lbs, and she usually eats 3/4cup dog food (usually purina or pedigree). We also give her some veggies..she LOVES steamed broccoli. She also likes whole wheat bread, some cheese (just a little as a treat.. quarter sized piece), we let her lick clean the yogurt cups, little bits of hard boiled egg, and lots of fruits: banana, orange, pear. (no grapes) We give her some cooked pork bones sometimes..no chicken bones. and ofcourse some chicken meat. And maybe once a week, we give her brown rice instead of her dog food.

She doesn't really like her dog food, but we give it to her because we know its a balanced nutrition, but as treats we like to give her bits of these other foods. My family eats a healthy diet, so the food we give her is healthy as well. whole grains, veges, fruits, meat.. is this good for her??

my dog seems to lie down, and lets the other dog comes to her. She does this when she wants to meet other dogs. She lies down, and then they sniff and meet. She is a friendly/lovable dog. I am just curious to why dogs do this?

Ok these are the characteristics that I want in a dog:

~Loving
~Affectionate
~Good with children
~Semi-good guard dog
~Playful
~Energetic (needs atleast 2 walks per day)
~Must be good with cats
~Easy to train
~Doesn't need too much grooming (no more than a few brushes per week)
~Smart/intelligent
~Good with strangers (not reserved)
~Not too many herediary health problems (no more than 5 known hereditary health problems)

I have researched a couple breeds but I can't decide what dog would be best for me. I don't mind what size it is but NO CHIHUAHUAS, YORKIES, MALTESE OR SHIH-TZU! I really don't like those breeds so DO NOT SUGGEST THEM! I don't want a dog that is known for being aggressive and I don't want a dog that would require a dominating or experienced owner. I've only ever owned a Dalmatian so I don't have any experience with a dominating breed.
Any suggestions would be great. I'm at a loss of what breed to get! I don't want to make a bad decision.

well i don't get my puppy pom puppy for 3 months. and maybe one day i might breed her, probabely only twice a year. and i figured that i will only sell them to one per person, no pet shops at all as i aslo think that in nasty. i will keep intouch with my buyers and all my pups will be desexed. so i figure that if i do my reserch and talk to breeders and when i know all i can i guess then maybe i will breed now and then and be reg or course. am i on the right track.

ok.... we have two dogs..... one is a 3 yr old cocker and the other is a 1 yr old lab. when we brought home the lab.... the cocker was very mean and constantly attacked her... she never brought blood but she was mean about it.... the lab would always just lay down and take it...... and now almost 1 yr later... the lab is fighting back.... tonight she went after the cocker(after the cocker growled at her first) and the lab drew blood, and the cocker needed stitches.... what should we do!? we really dont want to get rid of the lab, but if we have no other choice, then we'll have to find her a new home. but is there any medications that can calm her down or any siggestions to stop them from fighting?! thanks for the help! p.s. they are both females.. if that matters.

My dog delivered yesterday, this morning was panting, nesting (digging in her blankets) whining and acting frantic, I took her to the vet, who administered 2 injections of calcium, and said her calcium was low (hypocalcimia, aka "milk fever"). This quieted her down, but the panting will not subside. She is nursing a litter of 4, and the vet noted she is really producing a ton of milk. She gave Cal-tabs and advised two a day, I started feeding her cottage cheese with her feedings, and I just want to know how other people have handled it? Can you make it through calcium problems in the mother and still nurse? I hate to think of having to make her stop nursing. Is panting the least of my worries, and she'll be ok? I know to watch for tremors and if she acts worse again. I want to know how to keep a handle on it. A friend with dogs suggested giving her TUMS...can you give too many when a dog is nursing? The dog by the way is a beagle, two years old, this is her first litter.

When ever my mom yells at me, or me and my brother fight, or something he gets in their face and growls, and only threatens to bite them, he raises all the hair on his back and gets between whoever it is, and me and wont let them move untill i okay it, or reassure him, but he would never bite them. i have had dobes all my life and i know thats what they are bred for but, i have never had one who was this protective of me. i mean its a good thing sometimes, like when i was at the petstore and a man kept following me, and finally just grabbed me when i was trying to hide, thank god i had hammer, or i dont know what would have happend. but in the end the man had 62 stiches, and was arrested. but i dont know, any ideas whta i could do to reduce the over protetion of me? he does listen when i tell him to stop, or its okay, and he only reacts when im stressed, scared, or upest. but still what else do u think i can do with out taking ALL the protection out of him, and obvioulsy, i need it.

Unfortuantely, the apt im living in has its restrictions so I cant have a fairly large dog. I want a dog with a sweet disposition, loving, and yet playful. I know I cant be too picky but Id like a semi gaurd dog. Afterall, Im looking for a forever companion here. What do you think would be the perfect pet?
