When ever my mom yells at me, or me and my brother fight, or something he gets in their face and growls, and only threatens to bite them, he raises all the hair on his back and gets between whoever it is, and me and wont let them move untill i okay it, or reassure him, but he would never bite them. i have had dobes all my life and i know thats what they are bred for but, i have never had one who was this protective of me. i mean its a good thing sometimes, like when i was at the petstore and a man kept following me, and finally just grabbed me when i was trying to hide, thank god i had hammer, or i dont know what would have happend. but in the end the man had 62 stiches, and was arrested. but i dont know, any ideas whta i could do to reduce the over protetion of me? he does listen when i tell him to stop, or its okay, and he only reacts when im stressed, scared, or upest. but still what else do u think i can do with out taking ALL the protection out of him, and obvioulsy, i need it.

I don't know that you can quell his protectiveness. He is doing what he should be doing. I like his name. Best of luck.

Wow that is interesting. It just proves how much he cares for you. I think if maybe he was around your relatives more often, or maybe if you left him with them for a while, just so he gets more familiarized with them. I think your definitely on a good path though. As long as he instantly stops what he is doing and listens to you, its not near as bad of a problem as it could be!

Your dog is claiming you and that is not necessarily a good thing. It is dominating you. The moment the dog starts to bristle I would divert his attention and not allow him to get into the aggressive stance. Remain calm. In the end, he could end up hurting someone if it escalates. You wouldn't want that.

You have to coorect him when his behavior is not appropriate. He has to learn when you are really endanger. If he growls correct it immediately if not warrented. This problem, especially in dobys only gets worse if not corrected.

You need to get this fixed. I have a doberman, (my second). She/he needs to know WHEN to become protective. Somehow you need to teach her/him to NOT be so protective unless you ask for it.
