I have a 5 lb male papillon that is 2 yrs old and I have been given the opportunity to adopt a 5 month old male golden retriever puppy also. I am wondering if this will work out for I do NOT want to take this dog and then have to rehome him again nor do I want to put my first dog in danger either .

If you adopt an adult dog from the shelter and if it didnt recieve its vacinations as a pup is it likely it would come down with distemper or any other disease? Is there anyway to know for sure? Do you just take the dog to the vet after you adopt and can you get all the shots if you arent sure if it has them? I know our animal shelter does a rabies and checks for worms and spays or neuters the dog. Anyone work at a shelter or as a vet/tech please educate me on this. Thanks

He is six months old, we have been trying to use puppy pads. When he goes on the floor we put his nose in it, then immediately put him on the pad and make him stay until he either pees or for a certain length of time. He mostly pees on the floor, he will poop outside. I'm getting frustrated. It seems as soon as he gets off of the pad or in from being outdoors he pees.

I have a pomeranian or so I was told it was pure bred. At 3months he was 8lbs now at 51/2 months, he's about 12-13lbs. He really looks like a german sherpard but a mini version. Of course he isn't or he'd be much bigger, but are there any way to tell what it can be mixed with?

On Tuesday, I brought my dog home from the Spay/Neuter clinic, she has been fine since then. That is until today, she keeps kicking at the wound with her hind legs, what can I do? I put a bandage over it, but she is still kicking at it.

I have this 8 month old germin shephard she always has diarreah and looks horriably under weight, But she eats a full butter dish of dog food and at least half of a nother everyday. Her vet says she is ok and the diarreah is normal, But you can see all of her ribs and her tail bone, My other dog eats less and is healthy looking.
Is there anything that will help stop the diarreah and put weight on my puppy...

At first we thought it was submissive peeing and the vet said that she would hopefully grow out of it with age. It's still happening 6 months later and as she gets older there is more left behind. My boyfriend isn't cruel to her or anything, in fact he is working so hard to be overly sweet and we have started only allowing him to give her treats so she connects that with him and will hopefully stop. She does good for a day or so and then she'll have an accident for no apparent reason, they'll just be sitting on the couch, he'll go to pick her up and she'll start peeing. I am not sure what to do, the whole thing is extremely frustrating especially for my boyfriend. HELP!?!?!?

She is white with a fawn patch on her eye (kind of like Petey in little rascals - but I think he was a pit) and a small fawn spot right above her tail. Her mother's name was Rea Rye. She will be a family dog used to guard our farm and equipment shop. thanks!!!!

Now first things first, I care very much for my male yorkshire terrier "Fraggle", I even go to the extent to pamper him with treats and toys and even his own clothes, I give him pure Evian Water only and I give him the finest brands of dog food, I haven't ever given him "people" food and he enjoys playing in my lush backyard and garden, but everytime he goes number 2 he turns right around and eats it, this is kinda gross but I have even gone to the extent to try and gently force it from his mouth, then he snaps at me and growls, I then give him a light reinforcing slap on the bottom as it was suggested by my vet to do such, yes I have taken him to the vet to determine why he is doing this and she said (I live in Montana by the way), "he will just have to grow out of this, its something puppies sometimes do", but instead of it being a less common activity, it has increased greatly, it seems like his appetite for his own excrement is insatiable now! what should I do?

I was told 3 x's and only leave the bowl for 15 minutes, but he usually doesn't eat that much during that time. So I feel he might be hungry after I have already fed him the 3rd time. Should I give him food again eventhough it's late?
