Its too bad that your question could not have been answered by rational people without the rude comments. They are the idiots. Your dog is fine and does not need to go to the vet. The amount of Listerine was insufficient to do any harm to even your small dog. Many other dog owners have used a spray of mouthwash to remedy the bad breath problem, but it would be better to buy the dog toothbrush and paste made for them. There are liquid mouthwash products for dogs and a lot of times the bad breath is caused by them eating something outside, like cat sh-- and horse manure. Dogs like these smelly morsels. If your little dog is mostly indoors and has bad breath try the dog teeth cleaning products, If it is an older dog then maybe a trip to the vet for cleaning and or a check-up is in order. As for the shoot from the hip people who went off on you, I would respond simply by saying BITE ME!

Get some charcoal biscuits. Ask for them at the pet food stores. They are really good for their teeth, gums and even their breath. You can also get dog toothpaste that taste like chicken. It's not easy to brush a dogs teeth if you haven't started doing it from puppy hood but this toothpaste makes it a little more enjoyable for the dog and he may not put up such a fight after a few tries. He may also need a good cleaning at the vets. Their teeth are not unlike ours in the fact that they will get stinky and rot it not treated regularly.

There are oral rinses available to help remove plaque from pet's teeth. There are also special foods that help scrape plaque off while they eat! There are lots of oral health products beside the traditional toothbrush, consult a veterinary clinic for all the details.
Dental disease can be very dangerous to your dog's health, probably more of a risk than anesthesia, which is much safer than it has ever been.

There are various items that you can buy to help out your dogs teeth. There is a product called " slurp 'n; fresh" that is intended to help sweeten the bad breath. There are alot of " denta bone " product options ..I have even seen tooth whitening products for dogs !
Its just a matter of going and browsing the pet isles at zellers, walmart or petland ..specialty pet stores, ...
If you are very concerned or overwhelmed with all the choices you can talk to your Vet and see what they can suggest.

there is a whole range of chews/etc on the market for this a dog that has bad breath needs to be seen by a vet as it could be just bad teeth but it also a side effect of heart problems...bad mouth hygiene can also cause heart tummy problems your vet should be able to advise..can you not clean by using a cloth on your finger with the dog toothpaste also if you put frageria in its water it will soften the plaque...you can get frageria in tab form you give for two weeks or liquid you add to the water bowl...its herbal remedy so it will not hurt your dog.....

They sell dental cleaning bisquits and chew toys that help clean the teeth. You don't have to put your hand in their mouth and most dogs enjoy them.
